For anyone not on CDC (consumer directed care).  Have you been able to continue

receiving PCA services?  I know the extension is until 9/30/10 only.  Most if

not all the agencies are being denied provider approval for one reason or

another even if they have a medicaid & med waiver number.  This is not happening

for respite care.  I have been advised that they are either denying services or

are reducing the hours to practically nil if you get approved and then they are

having each person that is providing the services be re-authorized etc.  I know

the state has a budget problem but I also know there is pork-barrel spending

that could be redirected to children, disabled, elderly, poor sectors.  Sorry,

my soap box for a rainy friday afternoon.

Hello everyone. PCA services for people under 21 years old is being transferred from Medicaid waiver to Medicaid state plan. PCA is patient care assistant which includes bathing, personal hygiene. I admitted three patients under 21 to Medicaid PCA, they require paperwork ands MD prescription.

Hi,

My question regarding personal care assistant (PCA) was not only because of the transference to the medicaid state plan but also because of the Kepro company that is now the authorizing agent for PCA coverage. I sent out my paperwork in July/August to an agency. The agency recvd their Medicaid number (which is different than the med waiver number) and still have not heard back from Kepro - ie: is my child approved still? for how many hours? Also, Kepro is holding up approval of the actual providers that care for your child. It doesn't look like another extension will be happening so as of this friday - no one seems to know whether you will or will not have a pca to care for your child. Help!

Hi Cheryl,

Unfortunately, you are charting new territory with both the Kepro stuff and the PCA-from-Medwaiver-to-Medicaid, and for this reason there's not going to be a lot of guidance based on what worked in the past. Have you spoken to the Advocacy Center in Tallahassee?

Good Luck

Well, the update today was that until everyone with the Kepro problems has been reviewed/authorized etc due to their own delays/problems that there will be another extention. Yeah, at least I can breathe again for now. Another battle uphill. I probably won't be attending tonight's event @ BCC if the weather is as bad as expected. The flooding, traffic & wouldn't be a good match.
