Tina,Estradiol is the dominant estrogen in women. Located throughout our bodies, we have 'receptor' sites for Estradiol (brain, breasts, bladder, the pelvic floor muscles, etc). The vulva has Estradiol receptors. I took the birth control pill for about 10 yrs. The synthetic progestins in the pill can cause blocked estrogen and testosterone receptors in the vulvar skin and lead to vulvar pain. So, using topical estrogen like Estrace (which contains Estradiol) can nourish the skin and lock into those receptor sites. For me, it improved the overall

condition of my skin. I began using Estrace topically at age 32. At that time, my vulvar skin was in bad shape. Red, raw, irritated, tiny tears and hurt like heck! After using Estrace, the skin looks and feels so much better! I saw Libby (Dermatologist/Vulvar Specialist) down in NC back in April. She commented on how well my vulvar skin looked. Had she seen me just 3 yrs. earlier she would have seen a mess! Try going back through our older posts and you will learn more than you ever thought possible about

estrogen! Here is the homepage link: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/VulvarDisordersJust type in Premarin in the search box and it will bring up posts from the past with info about it. Same for Estradiol. As for the doctors, many prescribe the synthetics. Unfortunately, money and big drug companies have a lot to do with what is prescribed. The makers of Premarin are fighting against bio-identical hormones, especially compounded forms. They have taken big losses as women become more knowledgeable about hormones. As for Estrace. Tell one of the docs you want to try it - you may have to put up a fight. That is why it's so important for us to read and educate ourselves. Hope this helps, ChelleSubject: Re: Re:Premarin - TinaTo: VulvarDisorders Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 1:33 PM

yeah, looking again right now, it doesn't say it has estradiol. What does estradiol do? When I first started Premarin, it was in fact a little soothing until recently. I've read on here that some creams build up your skin to make it thinker and healthier. That is my goal to, not to do the oppisite. Maybe I should request Estrace but the two Dr.'s that I have presented it to have had that response, one of which is Ledger that I mentioned earlier that I have seen in Janurary. It seems like no Dr. has really helped concretely
