Penny,

Glad to hear all went well with the the GI and the procedure. I too like the Zofran...no problems. The good thing for me is I don't need the colonoscopies anymore since the colon is gone. That at least is one good thing about it.

The new drink sounds good. I may pass that to my father-in-law.

New GI report/"gallon from hell" alternative

My new GI did not disappoint me. She had clearly listened to my concerns and has responded well. I usually have a big problem with nausea and vomiting after sedation and she had Zofran on deck for the colonoscopy. I didn't have the slightest twinge of nausea. The biggest problem was that the adhesions and scar tissue from the hepaticojejunostomy made the procedure painful -- as soon as I reacted (I probably cussed like a sailor) they gave me more meds. Her nurses were well-trained, thorough and VERY pleasant. All in all, a great team.

Although I had told my previous GI that I do not have UC symptoms repeatedly, he never believed me. The colonoscopy yesterday showed "healthy, pink" tissue -- not the raging UC the other doctor suspected, in spite of the fact that the last colonoscopy that he did showed the same clear colon. Of course, the biopsies will tell the tale.

The prep was not the one I had had before, nor was it the "gallon from hell" that so many of you talk about. I'll give you all the recipe, it may be worth asking your own doctors about, but I am well aware that each doctor has his or her favorite brews.

At noon and two p.m. the day before the procedure take 2 Dulcolax

At approx. 2 p.m. mix 1/2 bottle of Miralax (238gm) into a 32 oz. bottle of Gatorade Rain. I found that you need to mix it in a pitcher or larger bottle since there's not enough room in the Gatorade bottle.

Chill the Gatorade and begin drinking the solution at 5 p.m. -- 1 glass every 15-30 minutes until gone

The Miralax pretty much disappears in the Gatorade -- no flavor or texture to worry about. All you taste is the flavor of the Gatorade.

I would not hesitate to recommend this doctor to anyone in the Finger Lakes Region of NY. If you are interested, please contact me directly since I will not give her name in a group post.
