In January of 2010, the journal Pediatrics published a landmark consensus paper on gastrointestinal problems in autism. This paper is a review of available medical literature surrounding autism and gastrointestinal symptoms from a panel of experts. We have translated a shortened version of this paper into several languages, including Italian. Links to translations into Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish are available on ARI's homepage, and the paper will be translated into Portuguese soon. ______________________________________________________ SELF-INJURIOUS BEHAVIOR SURVEY ARI recently posted a survey on the topic of self-injurious behavior (SIB) on the Internet. The goal of the survey is to increase understanding about the various types of self-injury (e.g., biting, hitting, and scratching), topography (e.g., face, torso, and arms), and associated medical problems and pain that may contribute to SIB (e.g., gastrointestinal pathology and migraine headaches). The late Dr. Ted Carr helped develop this new survey with Dr. Edelson. If you are a parent and your son or daughter frequently engages in SIB, we would appreciate your participation in the survey at www.Self-InjurySurvey.com. Lenny Schafer editor@...
