Guest guest
Dear all, My son will be 3 next month and has a pretty severe speech delay along with low-muscle tone and some sensory issues. He is being raised bi- lingual. I (mother) speak Dutch to him (we live in the Netherlands) and my husband (American) speaks English to him. He seems to understand both languages. He currently goes to Dutch daycare and has 2 session of ST a week (in Dutch) and 1 session of OT a week (English). We are considering focussing on just 1 language to see if that makes a difference, as we will move back to the US in the future, English seems to be the best choice. Does anybody else have experience with speech dealy and being bi-ligual? Also, we started the fish-oil and vit e, but I am looking for where to buy high gamma e online. Any suggestions? kind regards, charlotte

Guest guest
Charlotte, We live in the US -- I am American; hubby is Dutch. With our oldest child, he has only ever spoken with my husband in Dutch and has everything else in English. As a result, he is bilingual. When the twins started showing evidence of a speech delay, ALL the SLPs we spoke with told us to just stick to one language (English for us, since we're in the US and I speak English) for now, until that language is well engrained. So that's what we've done. Hopefully, they'll pick up enough Dutch from hearing hubby speaking with older brother that it at least give them a little basis when we do finally re-introduce the Dutch to them. In fact, hubby wants to move back to Europe for a couple of years, probably to Switzerland. But I'm saying no, as long as (the apraxic one) is still having speech difficulties and needs speech therapy. HTH! , mommy to Robbie (2/02) and twins and (6/04) --------------------------------- Get your own web address for just $1.99/1st yr. We'll help. Small Business.
