Several years ago, a neighbor was diagnosed with cancer and he asked me what I said to people who asked me how I was feeling.

I told him that you have to differentiate between those who really care and those who are simply being polite.

I usually flash a smile and say "I'm still vertical" to those who are being polite and give a slightly more detailed reply to those who care. He said that it sounded like a good plan.

Fast forward to church the following Sunday. A casual acquaintance asked him how he was feeling and he said: "I'm erect."

Ahem. And amen.
