Guest guest
I think if you have been working the choice will also be that SSD as it is based on your work history which if you have always worked will generate a better check a mo. If you own anything it has to be worth no more than 3,000. total, they denied me and told me when I sell it I can reapply, this at first freaked me out, I thought I was totally denied, but found that was still eligible to get SSD just getting approved, this is all based on what we fill out in all the paper work and what the Dr's report we have. If they find it questionable then you start visiting the SSD Dr. they assign for there opionion. Hard to beleive when we earned ourselves this when being employed all this time, but have to go through act of congress to get approved to get it. I truthfully would much more be working! It is just not fair at this point to continue to work when I never know when I may wake and can't get out of bed, which has me calling out, and becomes unfair to my employeer that they can't count on me. I have given it my all to try and continue to be able to work. Frustrated and now the waiting game begins, as someone who has no clue what we are going through holds whether we can support ourselves by getting a check due us, or what is the answer if denied? Hope things work out for you, each case is different with this just like the disease. Sharon Celeste Baker wrote: I am not getting SSI yet, but am on Workmans comp. I am scared as you are if SSI will accept me. What will I do if they do not. I feel the same way about working. I know I couldn't do a good job. The responsibilities of work and 5 kids is overwhelming for me. I just now am coming to terms with it and voicing reality. It was hard though, as I was embarassed that i am only 36 and feel disabled in my own body. I wish you the best of luch, and I hope to hear from you Re: visiti;ng an attorney today disability I am just in process of waiting for SSD, got denied for SSI have a auto worth more than 3,000. SSD will give me more a mo. anyway and doesn't matter what you own. I hate to discourage you but once you have been denied, and reapply with lawyer can still take 3yrs hopefully 2yrs but from what I hear no less than that. I am beside myself for income, as I know I can not take on a scheduled shift anywhere, I would have to work from home, or on my own terms, never know when I can't get up in the a.m. Good Luck and your atty should give u a answer to time frame, but believe at least 2yrs. I got my letter last week and decided to consult with a attorney to get some direction and I am going to order all of medical records. But, this last week has been the pits. I feel like someone has beat me with a 2x4. There is no way I could be a good worker. Is anyone else getting ssi? Let me know how long it took and if you ever did get it. I'm on social security disability, and the only requirement is that I'm disabled. They didn't look at my assets. Social security disability is for when you've worked long enough and accumulated enough " points " to qualify for a benefit. SSI, I believe, is disability when you haven't worked or haven't accumulated enough points. Medicaid has limits on how much you can have in assets. People have to " spend down " their assets before they can qualify. Check the website at www.ssa.gov Z
