Candace here is a google link that has lots of info on Crohn's Disease and

vulvar fissures. I suspect seeing a Gastroenterologist might be a good idea.

Hope you find out some good information and get better.

Hi, ladies. I have recently had strep throat... again. This means finally maybe

I will have MY TOUNCILS TAKEN OUT SOON>>> THAT IS WHEN I get inturance. At any

rate I had a bad flare up when I went from my friend's place to my fathers, and

things were beginning to settle down until I got sick and they put me on anti

biotics. Since then I have been in a large amount of pain. It seems like

discharge bugs it, dryness bugs it. AND dries it out, and yeast treetments berur

ike the dickons. Not only this, but it seems on my outer labia and even on my

clittoris I have what feel to be open scratches... No I'm not sure where from,

but they itch and hurt like crazy. I've tried some bathing, and and, AND, and

all the other normal stuff I do for my different types of flair ups, but they

only seem to make it worse. If you could suggest anything out of the ordanary

that might help this itching. I and my vulva will be very happy.

Thank youCand

Antibiotics are so rotten. I never take them anymore.

I'm not sure about some of your symptoms but the feeling of little cuts

sounds like lichen sclerosis...do you have any diagnoses?

I just joined this group a few weeks ago. I was diagnosed with Vulvodynia in July of 2005. I had burned and hurt terribly for over a year. It all started when I became pregnant. I developed a UTI, took an antibiotic (Macrobid), and developed a severe yeast infection in June of 2004. My Gyno. had me use every cream possible to get rid of the yeast. They never gave me Diflucan, because I was pregnant. I think the creams contributed to an increase in my pain. Well, I was put on bedrest in September 2004 due to an irritable uterus. I only delivered 2 weeks early. My baby boy was fine, but I was still in awful pain. I had to go back to teaching, so I wore skirts everyday, and I never slept in underware. Finally, in July 2005 I got an appointment with Libby in Charlotte, NC.

She put me on 75 mg of Elavil, Calcium Citrate, and told me to rinse with water after urinating. Within 4 months I was almost pain free, and within a year I went off of the Elavil.

In 2007 I became pregnant again, went on bedrest, but delivered another healthy boy. Two months after delivery I contracted strep throat from my 3 year old. Not thinking, I took another antibiotic, Amoxicillian. I developed another yeast infection. I've only had 2 during my lifetime. I took Diflucan. The yeast was gone, but I was still in severe pain. I burned, my clitoris ached, and I hurt around my urethra. I dreaded having to pee. I finally talked my doctor into putting me back on Elavil. I showed him my work up from Dr. , and he willingly agreed to prescribe the Elavil again. I have been taking the 75 mg. for about 3 months now, and I am much better. I'm not pain free, yet, but I'm still rinsing with water after going to the bathroom, drinking lots of water, and not sleeping in underware. What I do notice is that I hurt the most when I need to pee, have a bowel

movement, or am constipated. Once I relieve myself, I feel a little relief in my vulvar area too.

I don't know if this will help anyone or not. My doctor believes that whenever I have a yeast infection my nerves go haywire in my vulva, and even though the infection gets cured, I am still getting pain signals to my brain. Somehow, the Elavil helps this.

Is there anyone else on here who lives in NC?

Thanks! It's nice to have contact and read about others who have suffered and are suffering with this terrible problem. I appreciate all I have read so far. Hopefully, we can all help each other by sharing.

Not sure where you live in NC (I live in SC), but have you tried these places?

I’m

new to the group! I live in NC too (Apex). I have Vulvar Vestibulitis. I was

just recently diagnosed after having symptoms for years. Not happy with my

current doctor. Anyone out there who might be in the area and can suggest one? My

discomfort is so intermittent that it’s driving me crazy! I go weeks

feeling fine and then it seems like forever feeling awful. Sometimes I just

feel like I’m on the verge of getting a yeast infection but never get

one. I’ve never talked to anyone who has had this problem. Is this up/

down thing typical?

Actually as resentful as I feel about the " my nerves go haywire " comment from

the doctor as I expect more and better, I suspect that is more accurate than

most answers that are given " .

Also, " pain signals to the brain " seems interesting but somehow at the same time

like talking to a kindergardener. Isn't all pain, pain signals to the brain?

I wonder if anybody (medical types) has thought just what kind of reaction is

occurring that causes " haywire nerves " that make pain signals to the brain. What

immune reaction is occurring IGG, IGA, IEE or any of the others I wonder?

Despite using a water bottle to rinse after I pee, lately I experience a lot of itching after peeing. Can anyone shed some light on why that might be? Also, what do you find is helpful for labial (inner and outer) itching?

NOthing relieves my labial (inner and outer) itching (and ensuing pain) except Diflucan and boric acid capsules (at the same time). For me it is simply an increase in yeast. Using the two together is pretty fast relief for me but if your skin is really irritated maybe an antihistamine and some estrace would be a good thing to add to the mix of Diflucan and boric acid capsules

I had catarract surgery today so I am even seeing less and probably spelling and typing worse. One can always hope for improvement.

I say this not to be critical, but because I think it's ironically funny that the only word Arline spelled incorrectly was "cataract." :)

Hi Deena--

I live in Chapel Hill, so feel free to email me if you have questions,

etc. I don't really hang out on this list any more as what I needed

was PT so I spend most of my time on the Happy Pelvis list but I've

been through a lot. Who are you seeing now? I see Dr. Zolnoun at UNC.

While I do feel that she genuinely cares and is working to better

understand and treat pelvic pain, she also has 0 bedside manner and

she is the one who would not test me for BV and I do have it.

Hi, all. Has anyone here tried ThreeLac (GHT) for systemic yeast issues and Grapefruit Seed Extract (Nutribiotics)? ThreeLac is a combo yeast/acidophilus product and GSE is an anti-fungal/antimicrobial product. Also, has anyone tried Uva Ursi (an herbal) for bladder infections? It has antibiotic properties.

I've been told all this by a natural healthcare nutritionist, and I've been doing some research on my own. I just wondered if anyone had tried them and if they would be better than some of the torture doctors prescribe for us that set us up for a flare.

And no, I don't work for any of these companies... sadly, I'm just a dismayed victim of this beast that we're all fighting here. Trying to find my way through the maize of misinformation, infuriating doctors, and uncaring cohorts. :(

Beth,

In the past I tried GSE and Three Lac but I didn't continue it as I expected it to stop forever the yeast infections. Finally decided that nothing will stop it but I have to treat it with antifungals and boric acid and whatever is out there on an ongoing basis (plus eating not much if any starch and sugar (any kind of sugar and there are several kinds). It is a hard problem and the docs don't seem to be up on this either.

I live in Chapel Hill too. I saw Dr. Zolnoun briefly but she seemed to

" blow me off " . The first time she saw me she spent a lot of time and

seemed to care, but the second time she was very quick. The third time

she was only there for a few seconds and she did put a return visit on

my chart. She said she could not help me any more!

===================================================================

I see Dr. Michele at Wilkerson OB-Gyn at Medical Plaza at Rex.

. She is not a VV specialist but she has a lot of patients

with VV. She prescribes whatever I ask for and she has been supportive

in all my attempts to get better (of which there are lots, LOL).

She is so caring. I have never had a doctor care about me this much. I

did not think it was possible in this day and age. She hugs me.

I don't know whether she is taking new patients at this point. Her

children are still young. But she is the best.

(I love you Dr. if you ever read this)
