Guest guest
Dear Group, This summer i contacted Laid in Montana to ask if they used any chemicals in their refining process -- something i hadn't considered when i chose their emu oil a few years ago after an intensive search for the purest available. (Unfortunately, as of yet, no emu oil is certified organic.) I was already very happy with it -- so much so that i regularly sent Bellevue Pharmacy a supply to use for all my topical rx's until they started offering it as one of their standard base choices (yea!) -- but this explanation, reprinted below with permission, made me feel even better about my decision and i thought you'd find it interesting and informative. Hollis ************ You asked about any chemicals or solvents in our emu oil. The answer is NO and I will run through our process. We are very proud of our oil because we are one of the only Ranches in the U.S. that sends our fat in large enough batches to be guaranteed our own oil back. This is very important because we have found through our own testing that fat can VERY EASILY be manipulated through a feed program. Our birds are raised stress free in large pens with free choice food and water. Our feed program has been guaranteed to not have any animal by products in it since 1998. Our feed producer is a small mill 120 miles south of the ranch that grinds fresh crops for our Emu's feed. There are no chemicals or chemical preservatives or animal by products in our birds feed. Our fat is rated in the top 2% in the country. When our fat is refined it is done at acceptably low temperatures then filtered through natural clay filters. We use a minimal amount of natural vitamin E as a preservative (approx, 1 TBSP per 5 gallons) So you are truly getting an all natural product from the very beginning with our 100% Montana Emu Oil. The refining and filtering process takes all the impurities out. There are truly only three grades of Emu oil. Crude, Crude refined and fully refined. When people use the terms * cosmetic Grade they are only talking about fully refined. When people say triple refined, they are playing with words because all fully refined oil passes through three filters. When they talk about molecularly distilled—it is a refining process but does not pass the American Emu Association standards. You may even see some Australian oil out there vouching that it passes all AEA standards---another manipulation of words---AEA can stand for American Emu Association OR Australian Emu Association and the Australian Emu Association standards are quite different than the American.
