The Autism Research Institute and its partner organizations successfully launched the Global Autism Collaboration earlier this month. The other founding organizations include Autism One (US), the Autism Trust (UK), EmergenzAutismo (Italy), Mindd Foundation (Australia), National Autism Association (US), SafeMinds (US), Schafer Autism Report (US), Talk About Curing Autism (TACA, US), and Unlocking Autism (US). The Global Autism Collaboration will promote and encourage networking, communicating, and collaboration among autism organizations worldwide. The collaboration will also provide much-needed information-based support to these organizations. Not for-profit organizations are invited to become members, and for-profit organizations are invited to become supporters. If you lead, or are a representative of, a parent support group (in-person or online), please consider joining the collaboration. For more information, visit www.GlobalAutismCollaboration.com. Steve Edelson also filmed an introduction to the collaboration, which is posted on YouTube. ______________________________________________________ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS So much is now known about autism that ARI's website contains a wealth of FAQ documents. One was written by Dr. Temple Grandin, with questions on a variety of topics, such as sensory problems, fixations, echolalia (word repetition), early intervention, and more. Another twenty were written by a team of networked parents who spent almost a year compiling questions; as a group, they then wrote what they felt were the best answers. These are categorized, with a webpage for each topic. Go to www.autism.com/faq_aba_therapy.asp, where you'll find the first topic, 'ABA and Other Therapies' listed with all twenty-one in the left-hand column. ______________________________________________________ ARI STAFF SPOTLIGHT – NADINE GILDER Nadine Gilder attended her first Defeat Autism Now! Conference in 1998 as the parent of a six year old on the autism spectrum. Finding the conference extremely helpful and informative, she immediately became a volunteer; writing program guides and articles on dietary intervention as well as assisting conference coordinators. Eventually, Nadine was asked to be the Support Staff Coordinator for Defeat Autism Now! Conferences. As Support Staff Coordinator, Nadine determines how many volunteers are needed to help each conference run smoothly, and coordinates volunteers as well as making sure attendees and speakers have everything they need. In addition to coordinating volunteers for Defeat Autism Now! Conferences, Nadine is a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City and is also a nutritional consultant to parents of children with autism. Nadine and her family live in Toms River, New Jersey. Lenny Schafer editor@...
