Hi all!

Curious if anyone read the article in Newsweek which talk about

certain plastic packaging which leaks into the food. They mentioned

that they had done a blood test during the study which showed these

chemicals in the blood of all the study participants.

Does anyone know what type of blood serum test would determine that?

Thanks,

Shaul

Hi Shaul,

I read about that too. It's very troubling, all these things we assume are safe are leaching into our food from packaging or passing chemicals through our skin and swirling through our blood. Below is a group's website dedicated to mapping the pollution within our bodies. You can see who is participating so far in which states and what has turned up in their system:

And here's a little summary on the issue from PBS for anyone who is interested:

If you look on this page on the pull down boxes, the chemical culprits seem overwhelming:

Anyway, there's lots of stuff online about it if you search under "body burden testing", but I haven't figured out how I can get tested. Likewise, if anyone else finds a source for testing, I'd like to know.

Besides all the chemicals we come into contact with through our daily lives it looks like we are inadvertently increasing our exposure by putting all sundry of chemicals into our food loop. The EPA allows sewage sludge (which contains anything people put down their drains: pharmaceuticals, cleaning chemicals, etc..) as a legal fertilizer on crops...totally outrageous. This sludge is a toxic stew of heavy metals, pesticides and other extremely hazardous substances. Furthermore, many communities such as my own have moved to incineration of all trash which spews anything toxic someone puts in their trash into the air. How many people do you know of that really bother to take things such as leftover chemicals, electronics, paint, batteries, fluorescent tubes, treated lumber, etc. to the hazardous waste dump? And in my opinion, worse yet, is a community such as Edmonton, Canada that has the largest Mixed Solid Waste composting system in the world that ultimately puts all sorts of hazardous chemicals back into the food supply by providing this compost to farmers. For anyone interested in how this works:

When will our government figure out how to protect it's people?

I guess sometimes the frustration of PSC makes me bitter. LOL

So much for flush and forget,

Jeff
