everybody

don't shoot me but i have a question --- has any dr's ever explained why you

can't have certain things - for example soda (carbonated) to me after you

heal it seems to me it wouldn't be any different to the way the stomach was

b4 except much smaller bo what does soda do to it?

hi peggy. the supplements, etc may seem daunting, but keep connected

online & with your doc & in-person support groups & you'll be fine.

I agree with your thoughts on carbonated drinks. My mother had this surgery

years ago and drinks and has drank carbonated drinks since about one month post

My surgeon told me that the acid and corbonation would potentially

stretch the pouch. Also, one significant difference in our small pouch

and regular stomach is that the pouch has no stomach acids so no

digestion/breakdown of food takes place in the pouch.

Also, from what I was always told even before surgery is that

carbonation robs your body of calcium so it is not recommended that

one drink a lot of it.

Hi

Since after surgery the stomach is nothing but a very small pouch anything

like that would disrupt the lining and possibly cause ulcers to form and who

wants that. In a normal stomach soda and other carbonated drinks can do the

same

thing if you are sensitive. Have you ever put a penny or a quarter into a

glass of Pepsi or Coke or a piece of meat into these beverages do it and leave

it for abut 3 hours or overnight and you will see the damaged it does to these

materials. My dad did these types of experiments for me and I was shocked to

see the results so yes with an even smaller space these types of beverages

have the capability to do great damage.

Did you go through all the pain of surgery I mean think about it wls is very

drastic no matter what the procedure would you risk your health for a glass

of soda believe me Coke or Pepsi or whatever is not worth the risk.

Your body is all you have until they either burn you or place you in the

ground take care of it as best as you can and if something is harmful then stop

using it. There are non carbonated beverages that taste just as great nowadays

experiment with things that you can have and that are not detrimental to you.

You must go see the psychiatrist in order to be cleared mentally. They

want to be sure that you are suffering from major depression, suicidal

or what not and that you have really thought about this before allowing

you to go any further.

Good luck! :-)

question

I would like to know if any body out there had to go to a psychiatrist

before they had wls? The Bariatris treatment center that I went to

sent me a lettler saying I had to do that before my insurance would

even conister it. I also have to have blood work done which I'm doing

next week. This is going to be a long road a head of me. But, I have

to do this before my health gets bad. I also have to get in order all

the diets I have been on. With a Dr. I have to have there letter head

on the paper. That could be tough. I never really followed up with a

diet with a Dr. I was on diet pills twice but never had to keep going

to the Dr. For that. I guess I will have to go see my regular Dr. I

want to see what he thinks of this wls. I hope to hear from someone

soon. Thank you, Char

yes, the vast majority of candidates need a psych eval. this protects

the insurance, the surgeon, & the patient.

you're right, there's a lot of ducks to put in a row, but it's worth

it.
