Hi Everyone,

Last night I attended a meeting for the Kiwanis Aktion Club at the United Cerebral Palsy ADT Center which will be the meeting place. Just a reminder that the Aktion Club is a special needs branch of the Kiwanis to enable adults with special needs to participate in community service projects. We had a few homes show up with their residents and we were able to sign up 17 individuals in all. Ten of those individuals’ 2012 membership dues were paid for those with limited means thanks to ASA Broward donating $120 to cover the cost. These new members are so excited about this opportunity and they had some great ideas for projects which will be discussed at the next meeting late in January. Last night’s meeting was getting the chapter organized and UCP will be doing the paperwork. I have volunteered to help with the club teaming up with, of course, Bruce Blitman, the Kiwanis rep and father of a son with autism,

my own son, Ari’s UCP house manager Deborah and Bonnie Rosenberg, the Residential Services Director for UCP. Bruce had been trying to initiate this chapter for quite some time and UCP responded in a big way. The caregivers of these residents, of course, will be helping as well.

I THANK YOU ALL PERSONALLY ON BEHALF OF MY SON, ARI, AND HIS HOUSEMATES FOR ASA’S GENEROUS DONATION FOR THEIR MEMBERSHIP AND FOR THE OTHER RESIDENTS WHO BENEFITED. ASA WILL BE RECEIVING A PERSONAL THANK YOU, AS WELL, FROM BONNIE ROSENBERG.

A BIG HUG TO YOU ALL,

Elaine Terner
