Guest guest
Hi , I'm so happy to get your CaringBridge updates, it is wonderful to hear you are feeling (mostly) well, and I hope the current UC issues subside quickly. After the question about living donor transplants, I was wondering if you can explain what a split liver transplant is? Isn't that the kind of transplant you had? As I understand it, it's the right lobe of a deceased donor, of which the smaller left lobe goes to a child. So it wouldn't it be the same amount of tissue as a living donor liver? Or are only livers of small donors divided in this way? To avoid asking a personal question (!), do you know the upper limits of body size for a split liver? I remember you saying the recipient has to be small. It awes me to think of the kindness of a grieving family in donating the organs of a loved one to save strangers. And even more amazing are those willing, even if not able, to give up part of their own liver to save a loved one. Martha (MA) > > In a message dated 2/5/2008 6:01:42 P.M.
