Guest guest
Here is the email I received from Senator Gaetz. From: GAETZ.DON.WEB@...To: mamanila@...Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2011 14:16:32 -0500Subject: RE: iBudget Comments Dear Nila, Thanks for your email and for sharing your thoughts. I've met with the Director of APD, Mike Hansen, and asked him to provide some flexibility and choice between so-called core and non-core services. I know of one family who uses almost no core services but uses non-core services such as respite regularly. I'll push for families to be able to make choices. However, it would be cynical and misleading not to tell the truth about the overall APD budget. The agency is going to have to live within its budget just like agencies that serve other critically needful citizens such as children struggling for life in NICU's and elderly residents in serious need of dental, eye and nursing care in long term care facilities. If the state issues checks in the same amount as last year the banks won't cash them.....because the state, like families and businesses, has less money this year than last year -- about $2 billion less. So APD will have to live within its ever-growing appropriation but I'll work for as much flexibility for families within the available resources as possible. Respectfully, Senator Don Gaetz

Guest guest
Senator Gaetz is typically pretty sypathetic to disabled issues. His wife is in a wheelchair. Also noteworthy is that their son Matt is a State Representative and Senator Gaetz is scheduled to be the next Senate President.
