We have had a very successful and gratifying year. Our art programs and our craft programs are growing steadily. Our Craft Show was the biggest success in our history at Schott Communities. Our Religious Formation Class for students with special needs has grown from 4 students four years ago to now serving 24 students. Our deaf socials and especially our ASL movies are huge successes with 200 hundred people coming to Schott to watch a “first run†movie in ASL. The quarterly disabilities dances are standing room only! Our Family Support meetings are well attended and continue to provide helpful information to families, guardians and caregivers of the special needs population. And, of course, our Santa Party once again brought smiles and cheer and wonderful gifts to all our clients and parishioners. Our Saturday Compass Program will be celebrating its second year. We have added eight more clients and hired a teacher’s assistant. Every Saturday at Schott Communities is a day of joyous celebration, friendship, fun, and physical fitness. Our associations with the City High School Key Club, American Heritage Best Buddies Program, St. Mark’s, Archbishop McCarthy, St. High School , Cypress Bay High School and the yoga community have greatly enriched the lives of our Saturday participants. The many volunteers that come to entertain us with music, crafts, art, sports, cooking and dancing make every Saturday a special Saturday! This September we expanded our Compass Program to six days a week. We are blessed to have Ms. Valeska as the Compass Supervisor. The days are filled with field trips, life skills, computers, yoga, and lots of outdoor activities. Each participant has an “IP†(individual plan) with goals to work on throughout the year. We are looking into collaborations with local community organizations such as The Funies Foundation which is an equestrian center to learn about horses and SW Ranches Farmers Market to learn about gardening. We love what we do here at Schott Communities and are so grateful to be able to fulfill our mission every single day, 7 days a week. On a personal note: for many years I worried about my daughter’s future. Now, when I see Micaela bolt out of my car after I park in the Schott parking lot, I know there is meaningful place for her to go where she is happy, fulfilled and safe. Thank you for all your continued support. May God bless you all and we wish you a very happy and healthy 2012!
