Hi all,I woke up at 5 am with really bad lower back and right hip pain. I suspect I twisted wrong in my sleep. But I thought I'd check - is there any chance this could be related to PSC? I see an internist in a few hours.Marie

---Marie, I have been having lower back and right hip pain for about 2 weeks, I have

been blaming it on everything (including the way I slept), but now I too am wondering

if it is PSC related.......

Hi Marie;

Hope that your doctor concludes that you just slept on it awkwardly,

and that the pain will go away after a few days of rest. But with

this disease we always seem to have to be prepared for the worst. It

might be sacroliitis, which is a type of spondylarthropathy which can

accompany inflammatory bowel disease as one of the " extraintestinal

manifestations " of IBD:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/sacroiliitis/DS00726

But there are several other joint diseases to consider:

Becker H, Gaubitz M, Domschke W, Kucharzik T. Joint involvement in

chronic inflammatory bowel disease--current diagnostics and treatment

options. Z Gastroenterol. 2006 Jun;44(6):497-502.

I had something like this a year or two ago. I just woke up with bad

lower back pain one day and it just kept getting worse. Pretty soon I

was shuffling around like an old man. The doctor said that my symptoms

resembled those of some kind of degenerative disease more than an

injury. She gave me prednisone and pain meds and that seemed to take

care of it pretty quickly. Thankfully it hasn't reoccurred since then,

and hopefully it won't. I do have osteopenia due to the PSC and I've

wondered if that may have something to do with it.

Hope you feel better soon!

I also have been having lower back and hip pain which sometimes goes into my left leg. it has been my biggest complaint the last few months. My Dr. also said it was probably spondylarthropathy, and he gave me a prescription for dilaudid pain meddication, which is the only thing I have found to help. My only problem is that it is worse when I work and I'm a nurse in Neonatal intensive care, so I can't take the medication when I work. I'm not sure what I will do if it gets much worse. Let us know what your Dr. has to say. I hope it is nothing more than cramping from sleeping. Sands UC 2002, PSC 11/07athan wrote: I had something like this a year or two ago. It turns out that my hip & back pain was a pulled muscle. I slept a lot yesterday, and used a heating pad. I took a Tylenol extra strength, and did some walking. It's almost gone today. I think I jumped out of bed too fast yesterday morning. I hate to say why I did that but it was related to the j-pouch :-(
