Guest guest
Hello, My son Dan needs his 4 wisdom teeth out and we are scheduling this for the summer hols when he comes home from uni. Dan has UC and PSC[diag 2003]and is on remicade, imuran and urso. I have read something about possible clotting problems in surgery for people with PSC.....the INR levels?? Can someone offer some advice on precautions we should be alerting the oral surgeon to...because quite honestly he/she wont have a clue. Many thanks Brussels Dan Uni in UK
Guest guest
, I have had two teeth out, and am scheduled to have another out next week. They are rotting because of the fruit juice I use to mix my Questran with. Now I know, I brush after the juice, but for 7 months didn't even occur to worry about it. Anyway, I am currently listed for transplant (although the status is now on hold again until this tooth extraction heals, about 6 weeks), and my oral surgeon has been in close contact with both the anesthetist and my liver specialist. We do a full blood count before hand, and have abx after to prevent infection. In my case, the damage to my liver is pretty bad, so the consult with the anesthetist is most important. I want to wake up afterwards. Good luck, Penny T (Australia)

We will make sure we talk to his hepatologist, GI and oral sugeon before this happens. Good luck for your extraction and the liver transplant!! Guest guest
I had several teeth xtracted before my tx. The teeth that had root canals and crowns done were all taken out, I learned later that they posed a possible site for infection. I had no problem with the procedure and no extra precautions were taken, not even antibiotics. The transplant center was at a University and since the also have a dental school, the teeth were pulled by dental students. They knew nothing about organ transplant patients when they started, but by the time they were done, I had told them about my disease, and everything I could think of that was pertinent. One of the few consolations of having a rare disease, is the chance to educate. It might be a good idea to make some copies of any good articles about liver disease and dental complications and give them to the dentist before the appointment so your dentist can be up-to-date.
