I don't know how old your child is but that is an excellent place to start and you found this group which will provide you with support. If your child is pre-school age or older contact the Family Network for Disabilities they will help advocate for your child. They also have great support and have helped countless families including me. Good luck. Contact this group anytime. and all the other families are incredible with their knowledge and sharing. We are so lucky that started this group so long ago.

I can tell you where I would begin but we all approach this thing called autism differently so you will have to look at all of your options (not many out there) and figure out what will work best for your family. I will list these in order of importance for my child:

1. Get a good DAN Dr. We use Dr. Rossignal but there are others.

2. Get a good ABA therapist.

3. Make sure you get help working with the school system ie advocating for your son through the IEP.

When we were deciding what to do to help our son I chose the approach that offered the most answers and hope which is why chose to treat his autism bio medically and through traditional and non traditional therapies. Here is a brief list of the therapies we use and have had great success with:

ABA (applied behavior analysis)

Speech therapy

Occupational therapy

HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy)

Interactive metronome therapy

biomedical interventions (ie diet, supplementation, chelation).

CARD can help you find providers in your area and they can keep you posted on events, seminars, social outings withing the Autism community but they do n ot provide services. You will spend the next few years trying to figure this whole thing out but remember it is a marathon not a sprint so make sure you do your research and make educated decisions based on what is best for your child. This group is full of parents who have been there and done that so ask lots of questions and use this list as the valuable resource that it is. Here are a couple of great websites to check out:
