I've been trying to forward an article about an endoscopy clinic in Nevada and have had no success. Apparently, about 40,000 people are being asked to get tested for HCV and HIV due to unsafe practices. You can simply Google Nevada Hepatitis News and read the article.

Don’t know if

this help anyone, but thought I’d share it anyway. Ken’s GI doctor told us - when scheduling either an ERCP, EGD

or colonoscopy *always* be the first

patient of the day. His reasoning

was; between patients they clean equipment, but they usually are in a hurry and

don’t always do a great job.

But at the end of the every day all equipment gets a through cleaning

and sterilizing. So be the first

patient of the day, you’ll increase your odds of getting clean equipment

and “fresh” personnel. HTH

That's good advice, but none of the scopes commonly used are

" sterilized " -- they are disinfected. The reticulated scopes cannot

withstand normal sterilization temps. as I understand it.......

The risk of infection was from disposible syringes used for sedation

etc that where reused on different pts. Not from the scopes.
