I was at work, and under stress....just found out

something that put me over the edge. I took my

regular meds, which was Zoloft and Benadryl, when my

head started getting hot, my ears burning and itching

in the canal. My body got tired to the point I could

not hold up my head. I was shaking and feeling chills

except for my head which was hot and sweating

profusely. I felt like I could throw up, or pass out,

and couldn't hardly talk (or at least my voice wasn't

projecting).

I walked out of the training class I was in, and went

to my boss and said, " I gotta get out of here " , I

tried to tell her what was happening and that I

thought it was my liver. She wanted to call an

ambulance but I said no. I called my Hep and they

said to go to the ER, so I called my husband who was

40 minutes away. 10 minutes later, I decided I

couldn't wait and someone drove me to the ER.

They did not listen to my complaints and penciled in

tightness of chest and chest pain along with shortness

of breath (none of which I complained about).

A EKG was done.....the nurse was talking about a topic

that was 'annoying and upsetting to me' and I am sure

it was reflected in the test.

Anyway, the docs got all anxious and wanted to

transport me to the main hospital by ambulance because

of this EKG. I didn't want to go, but they said it

would be AMA. So I went.

I stayed in COU (coronary observation unit) for 23

hours. They did an echo and 3 more EKGs without

nothing showing up. They wanted to do a stress test

before I left but had a scheduling conflict and wanted

me to spend yet another night in the hospital to which

I did refuse. I was not fed the whole time, and that

was over 24 hours, which caused some other problems

for me since I don't have a colon. I walked out AMA

with justification.

I called my family doc and got in the next morning.

He got the reports and said I probably had an anxiety

attack and nothing more. He ordered the stress test

for today, and scheduled me to go back to work

tomorrow.

So now I live in fear of heart problems. No biggie

except that both my parents had significant heart

problems. My oldest brother died at 42 of a heart

attack, My oldest sister died at 48 and my younger of

my 2 brothers was 51. I have 1 sister left, who is

1.5 yrs older than me and she has some heart problems.

Yikes, now I worry how that will affect my ability to

have a transplant. I know that hospitals worrya bout

their success rates.

Cindy, Being a cardiac nurse I see your senerio often. Women can

present with such strange symptoms and getting an EKG with breast

tissue in the way can sometimes give a false positive or negative

reading. I would encourage you to follow up with a cardiologist.

Expecially with your family history of cardiac problems a calcium

score from a heart CT would be a noninvasive way to see if you are at

a risk for blockage and an heart attack
