Ok, I've been asking for recomendations lately for

Pandas specialist and phd but even more importantly

I need to find atleast one good reliable understanding

Friend ( mom and child or children) for my son and

Myself. My son is very high functioning to the degree

That it is not apparent( at times) that anything

Is different about him... Until a melt down or

Obsession or odd play occurs. Im

Tired of having to explain to parents his issues

And then have them never invite us over. My son

Is working so hard on social skills but the rules

R to let your guest go first and have first choice etc. My son

Never gets to be the guest:-( he's a great kid! )We live in parkland

And I am 46( can't believe it). I had him at 41. My son

Will be 6 in one week. He will also be changing

Schools next year and I want him to have a friend

That will still be there no matter what school

He is in. There is too much change in his life and

I want him to atleast have a stable friendship

( me too). If anyone is in the same boat or just has room for

Another friend please respond . I know this sounds desperate

And that is because I am and I am hoping atleast

One person understands. Thanks for reading!

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. My son will be 10 in May and has the same issues. He also has no friends at school even though he is very sweet and loving and wants friends desperately. I know that they are not the same age, but I would be happy to get them together and see how it goes. Joanna To: sList Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2012 9:04 AM Subject: Need friends!

Hey there!

I think we all are pretty much in the same boat here. My son is 7 and aside

from his brother and my mother's foster children we have the same issue. I have

no friends in the autism community and my son has never really had the

opportunity to interact with other ASD children. I would love to welcome you

guys into our hearts. I think that would be awesome!

I say we create a support group specifically for that purpose. What do you

think?

I would love to be kept in the loop of such an opportunity for our kids. Play dates are so important but it's hard to find that special friend between school, therapy and life in general. A while ago I posted on this same issue, met a few moms but nothing came out of it. I would like to try again. My son is 6, PDD super sweet, and would love to make a new friend. He is in first gr with support and we keep him busy! However we can always make time for some play mates. We live in SW broward, pembroke pines area. Please keep me posted if any of u are interested in getting together, weekends work best for us FYI but we r flexible! Thank you! Sent from my iPhone

I am in Palm Beach County, and I would suggest contacting the FAU Center for Autism and Related Disabvilities. They may be able to help you out. They have social skills groups and groups where the kids get together to play and the parents have a support group as well. My son who is now 16 had the same issues (and is very high functioning - you would never know by looking at him that he has issues) and they were able to help. The link is: http://www.coe.fau.edu/centersandprograms/card/default.aspx and their number is 1-800-9-AUTISM.

Good luck!

Hi Savannah,

I normally don't take the time to cooperate and sending responses, however, this question touched my heart in a very special way. I have been hosting birthday parties for my 3 year old every year, with the hope that I would expand his social life and, allow him to bond to so called "typical children"; unfortunately, my son never gets invited to any of their parties. Still, I do not let that discourage me. After all the health related issues and the milestones my son has been able to accomplish, this motivates me even more to celebrate his birthday every year. I do a lot of planning, rent tables, chairs, bounce houses and catering to also build memories so my son could see how incredibly special and meaningful he truly is in my live and in the lives of my family.

I want to encourage all the parents to go above and beyond (of course, according to their financial means) and celebrate in public how joyful you are of your special needs child. So they can see that you are not ashamed, nor embarrassed and that you are just as proud of your child as they are with theirs.

I hope this helps.Aly

my son is now thirteen. when he was 8 he was in a public school and in a classroom with neurotypical children. i invited all of his classmates. only one classmate showed up. this is because that classmate's mother has a wholesome philosphy of non-discrimination.of course my son was never invited to other kid's parties. your attitude is inspiring to me and is spot on. we should be proud of our children and we must not let the larger world relegate us and our kids to the shadows.
