Hi:

New to the group and looking for feedback. I have a 16 turning 17 years old autistic son who is pretty high functioning but still needs a lot of

help with social skills and executive functioning. My wife and I have been looking at summer programs that emphasize these areas and came across the Career Internship Program (CIP) for teenagers with autism here:

http://www.cipsummer.com/brevard/

Have anybody in this group had an experience with this program? If so, would you kindly provide us with reviews or recommendations? We are willing to spend the money if the program is as good as it looks.

Pablo

You might want to check out the Koala School in Weston, it is virtual learning via his laptop, but he can attend a reglar type small classroom. There is a psychiatrist there at all times, and a lot of social interaction. There is also a camp called e-camp-but it is in Israel. They have a very successful sort of sleep away camp with kids on computers for part of the day, sing a longs, hikes, games, outings, etc. I wish that we could use that as a model and have something similar here. Also for older "kids", there is nothing for kids older than 18....boo hoo! Sandy P.S. Also call the Dan Marino (CARD) they have summer programs.

Thanks Sandy. I will check Koala. The program I referenced below sounds really good and that is why I was asking if someone have heard of knows anything about it.I have checked with the Dan Marino Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy but the programs they have in place require participation 3 to 4 days a week for 2 hours in the afternoon and they only meet in downtown Fort Lauderdale. For a kid in a regular HS diploma track that is tough. What is worst if you don't participate during the year they will not even consider you for the summer. Just desperately looking for options.PabloTo: sList From: sandymovie@...Date: Thu, 26 Jan 2012 12:12:24 -0800Subject: Re: Looking for Feedback about Summer Program for Autistic Teenagers

Your welcome. Koala runs all year as a school, but my son really loved it. Sandy
