I was gaining at 300mg a day but now that they took me

off of Lexapro and put me on Cymbalta and lowered the

lyrica to 150mg aday things are becoming better. less

swelling of hands and feet and lost some of the gain.

I asked doctors about the weight gain with Lyrica; and I have gained weight the

past few months. They told me there is no significant weight gain issues with

Lyrica. It's being sedentary from the pain/illness stuff. So we can't use that

one!!!

They also are testing thyroid and other labs. But the doc said my weight gain

is much more likely from me being inactive and not exercising than the Lyrica.

Just thought I'd share what I was told.

Hi Diane,

Excuse me.

How well does the original dose work? Had the higher

dosage worked better? Had the doctors raised your dosage

because the original dose wasn't working enough and you

needed more, or because that's what they normally do for

FMS patients?

I used to gain weight on Elavil, about 25 to 30 lbs.

I've been wary of the same happening on Lyrica.

FYI - I have severe ME, FMS and MPS, and am on a

fentanyl patch, vicodin, and I was recently put

on neurontin.

I'm thankful my doctor wanted me to try the neurontin

first because I'm already so overweight due to the

stress of the impossible task of caring for my father

who had Alzheimer's. Dad passed away and I'm still

alive but very ill! My doctor said that insurance

companies usually want us to try neurontin prior to

Lyrica. I like the pain blocking effect of neurontin.

Thank you,

Sandi Harrington, So. California, USA

Hi Sandi

Actually the increase in dosage was to help more as

the loswer dose was not helping like they hoped. And I

was doing very well on the 300 a day except for the

weight gaining and power swelling.

I too have taken Elivil which was like a asprin, and

up to 1500mg a day and it was not doing anything

either. The muscle spasms were so intense i could not

even take a normal breath I was so tight. then the ole

Topomax was attemted with did very good for spasms but

my cognitive brain was having a lot of trouble. As a

paramedic and field taining officer I was beginning to

have trouble with drug dosage math.

So now we are back at the orginal dose of

lyrica,cymbalta,flexiril and skelaxin along with

tramadol and hydrocodone ,phengan for nausea prn.

Along with meneirs/vertigo I take meclizine.

most anti-depre. can cause weight gain as it slows

down the metabolism.

So we are doomed to drugs that make us gain weight and

we are taking more than one of them. The same with

opiod based pain meds.

That's interesting, Angie. I thought weight gain was listed as a possible side

effect for Lyrica. Oh well, no biggy. Each of us reacts differently anyhoo.

Hope you are feeling somewhat better today.

Jeanne,

My mother took part in a clinical trial once and her problems with the drug

happened the weekend after they had finished collecting data. I begged her

to call them, but she wouldn't. This was a cox2 inhibitor, by the way, and

she was a control subject.

I'm just saying that to emphasize that just because it didn't show up in

the package insert does not necessarily mean it is unrelated! Suspicions

might be raised if we keep hearing the same story over and over.

(who had an extremely rare reaction to an antibiotic (1 in 20,000

people) but eventually, they greatly restricted the use of the product

because there were others like me who began to have bone marrow failiure

some months after taking the drug. Many of them died, but I didn't, obviously)

Thanks Diane,

Actually, the Elavil was given to me originally for sleep,

for the serotonin neurotransmitter dysfunction dx prior to

ever being diagnosed with FMS. Same dysfunction along with

ME, same medicine, different symptoms, though of course,

the insomnia was also from the FMS!

Are all of the above for pain?

How does the phengan work for nausea?

Thank you,
