Guest guest
, There is a guy named Dave Ramsey who has a book out called the " Total Money Makeover " and it teaches you, step by step how to dig yourself out of your " money hole " if you have one! He does it in baby steps - #1 is to have a basic emergency fund of $1000, then #2 is list all your debts in smallest to largest order (after your obvious house, car, lights, food, insurance) and then everyone gets minimum payments *except* the smallest bill. That one gets worked to death until it's paid off, then that $ gets rolled to the next one and so on and so on. So far, in a little over a year, with us bringing in far less than this mind you because of my LTD, we've paid off close to $60k in debt that isn't coming back! Woohoo!! Now, DH did get a worker's comp award because he tore his achilles tendon at his old job and it required surgery and we used our income tax too, but it can be done. We started an Angel Food ministry program at our church which helps our food budget considerably and in all honesty, I don't do too much driving except around town. I think our biggest expenses are my medicines and a lot of those are generic so that helps (except, of course, the Lyrica.....lololol). Anyhow, you can go online to his website and I think there are some things you can download for free - like budget forms and that kind of thing. The biggest thing is to tell your money what you are going to do with it; otherwise, it tells you which is what happens in most cases. Slow and steady wins the race........ ((((Hugs to you)))) Darlene > > > > Just taking it easy today. I hurt all over and need to rest, so I > am mia for awhile. Unfortunately, just as I was finishing making my payments, they were absorbed by an other group --- but I did that bit about paying minimum on the biggies and paying the most on the smallest and I really did dig myself out of a very big hole. Only problem was once my mother's estate was settled, I opened first one and then an other visa card. I could pay both of easily but I did go overboard. On the other hand, both vehicles are paid off --- paid cash for mine and then got tired of dh not writing a payment for his new truck so I called and got the pay-off balance on that, and now he doesn't pay attention to when his credit card bill is due --- which meant his credit score was way lower than mine. But he tells me " Well, I am working hard to pay it off! " Doesn't seem to matter to him when the payment date is!!! But as I told him, that's his and it is the only bill I even ask him to pay -- I take care of everything else!
