Guest guest
Cindy, before you switch ask BCBS what is going to be their policy for Mental Health coverage in FL. Currently I have BCBS PPO and as of Dec. 1st/11 they are "outsourcing" their mental health coverage to another company that is cutting by 65% the payment to providers, which has resulted on many providers to decide not to renew their contracts with them. Also, as far as I know (because at some point I researched it) there are not many providers that accept BCBS.Good luck!CarolinaSent from my iPad My company is switching to blue cross blue sheild which will allow speech and OT covered under the Florida mandate. Guest guest
I have BCBS and the mental health provider is MHNet. You are right that many providers are not dealing with BCBS but I was told that it wasn't the compensation, it was that it was incredibly difficult to become a provider for BCBS. If they can not give you a provider withing 60 miles of your home then you can use who you want and they will cover it. Guest guest
It's true, they're cutting payment to many providers. Guest guest
Very few people benefit from that almost useless mandate. Maybe in the next world..... Guest guest
Unless your company has a self-insured plan (which it doesn't sound like) or the company has less than 50 employees, the health insurance organization thay your company has a contract with is required to provide ABA therapies under the law. Unfortunately, many therapist (including my son's previous therapist) don't wont to become providers for these insurance companies. Many don't want to work for the contracted rate or complete the necessary paperwork that the health insurance organizations require; not to mention, any co-pays, or the delay in payments from the health insurance organizations. Many private therapists don't believe that the administrative hassels in dealing with insurance companies are worth their time or effort. From my own personal experience, many insurance companies don't make it easy for these therapists to participate. My son's therapist had to constantly battle with the company to get paid.
