Guest guest
I have a question to all members. Has anyone had the density of their bones due to psc. Mine has increased 30% in one area and 12% in another. I had my test three years ago again a couple of months ago.
Guest guest
Hi--Last year, about 9 years after my PSC diagnosis, I had a bone scan which indicated osteopenia, the beginning stages of osteoporosis. There was definitely bone loss. So, I started on Fosamax and a calcium supplement. I haven't been tested since starting this regimen, so I don't know how effective it's been. I understand that bone loss is common as PSC progresses. Tom > > I have a question to all members. Has anyone had the density of their > bones due to psc. Guest guest
Bone density in patients with PSC is almost alway low because of Low Vit D, and history of steriod treatment. Increases of 12 and 30% are fantastic over 3 years as the most potient medications for postmenopausal osteoporosis improve bone density about 3% per year. Perhaps the tests were done with differnt technologies (DEXA vs CT). Let us know how you did it. Von > > I have a question to all members. Has anyone had the density of their > bones due to psc. Guest guest
My recent Dexa-scan results showed further improvement in all areas: spine, forearm, hip. This was without any special medication for the last two years. Pre TX, I had borderline osteoporosis. I had been on infusions of Aredia (Pamidronate) every three months since before TX. I credit exercise the most. The infusions helped also. Don Please be a blood/organ donor Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Guest guest
I had my bone density scan less than a year ago and not surprisingly, it was low in both areas they traditionally scan -- hip and spine. Apparently, both were low enough to classify me as having osteoporosis (I believe 1-2 standard deviations below norm is when they typically consider prescribing meds). I've been taking Actonel once weekly and Vitamin D Analogue together with Calcium supplements once daily. My next bone density isn't scheduled for another 3 months yet so I guess I'll find out then if it's made any difference. Apart from the nuisance of scheduling the Actonel, it's been a rather benign experience overall -- which isn't a bad thing ....
Guest guest
I have never taken any steriods except twice in a shot one in knee and one in hip for pain. the knee one was done after the bone denisty test the in hip has been at least two year or more"Arman, Shirin, Niki & Mateen" wrote: If you have to have taken steriods or anything of that family, it will have an influence on the outcome of your bone test.
