Where did the cluster concept originate? From: sList [mailto:sList ] On Behalf Of KarpSent: Thursday, November 11, 2010 12:00 PMTo: Subject: Broward: Autism Committee of ESE (ACE) ----- Forwarded Message ----To: deniseslist@...Sent: Wed, November 10, 2010 9:47:31 PMSubject: Autism Committee of ESE (ACE)Hello All,The Autism Committee of ESE (ACE) is a committee that was created years ago by parents concerned about the needs of student with autism in Broward County Schools. The ACE committee was instrumental in advocating for specialized programs such as the autism clusters. It was also at the forefront of advocating for supported classrooms throughout the district, providing in class supports so that children can be educated in their least restrictive environment. Parents move to Broward from other parts of the state in order to tap into the programs and supports here in Broward. The ACE committee is in dire need of a facilitator. To my knowledge it has not met this school year. The absence of an ACE committee will surely impact children with autism across Broward in one way or another. With so many needs still ongoing (middle school programs with appropriate supports for our kids; need for inclusion specialists, particularly in middle and high to provide training and support to not only students, but to staff; social skills groups that target generalization of skills taught in small structured environments, etc etc etc)The ACE committee has met on the third Wednesday of each month for years, but can be changed based on the availability of it's facilitator. I hope that you will consider becoming involved in this longstanding and vitally important committee. If you are interested in assisting, please contact Bob Mayersohn (ESE Advisory Chair) and let him know. His email is GRFood@...Thank you for your advocacy efforts,Stacey Stacey HoaglundFamily Support SpecialistFamily Network on Disabilities100 S s AveFt Lauderdale, FL 33301Office: Fax:
