Health and Intellectual Disability Study

The University of Illinois at Chicago in partnership with Special Olympics is embarking on an important health study. You do not need to be part of Special Olympics to participate. The goal of the project is to create new health knowledge to better assist healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers in addressing the unique needs of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Family members, caregivers, and/or service workers, along with the adult with I/DD are invited to enroll. The adult with an intellectual disability must be at least 18 years of age or older and currently residing in the United States.

The survey takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. Surveys will be conducted once per year for a period of five years. You will receive a $5 gift card for every survey you complete. There is no cost to participate in this study.

Developing Quality of Care Measures for People with Disabilities Report

This report summarizes recommendations from a meeting of experts held by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality ( AHRQ) to begin the process of evaluating measures to assess quality of health care for people with disabilities. People with disabilities need the same screening, preventive and wellness services as people who do not have disabilities. They also may need for these services to be delivered in ways that accommodate their disabilities. The 43 page report is available online at http://www.ahrq.gov/populations/devqmdis/ and in PDF format.
