Broward County - Arrests and Baker Act of ASD Individuals

Many of the subscribers to this list serve are aware that I am a father of son with autism. Many are also aware that I am a law enforcement officer involved in trying educate other law enforcement officers about individuals with ASD.

I believe that much more can be done to educate public safety personnel in Broward County about autism spectrum disorder. I am currently attempting to collect data about individuals with ASD in Broward County who have either been arrested or taken in to custody under the Baker Act.

If you are willing to contact me off of the list serve and share your story or the story of your loved one who was been arrested or taken to a treatment facility under the Baker Act in Broward County, I would greatly appreciate it. Simply reply to btbarta@... with your contact information and the best to time to reach you. I believe that armed with this information we can petition local law enforcement agencies in Broward County provide adequate training on how to have better interactions with people who have autism, hopefully reducing the number of arrests and Baket Acts of individuals with ASD.
