Just posted: NICHCY's latest blog!

Our friends at the IRIS Center have recently released their RTI: Mathematics online module for educators. Recent studies have noted that more and more schools are using RTI. Many schools implemented RTI primarily in reading, but are beginning to apply RTI frameworks to mathematics instruction.

Just in time for the new school year, RTI: Mathematics includes includes the voices of expert researchers on effective practices, interactive activities, and stories of schools implementing RTI in mathematics. Here's an excerpt of this blog:

Learn to Implement Effective RTI for Mathematics!

Did you know that, in a typical classroom, approximately twenty-five percent of all students will struggle with mathematics, and five to ten percent will require intense, individualized mathematics instruction? Teachers face this challenge every day as they work to improve mathematics outcomes for all students.

Implementation of the response to intervention (RTI) approach can provide extra help to students as soon as they start to struggle academically through what is sometimes referred to as "early intervening services." The RTI approach can also be used to help identify students with learning disabilities. To this end, the IRIS Center for Training Enhancements has created a wide variety of materials and resources related to RTI. One of these is our recently posted STAR Legacy Module, RTI: Mathematics.
