Guest guest
Our CF clinic has a Halloween flu party where patients and family members receive flu shots free at charge and there are games and box lunches for everyone. My little guys are in good health, but the flu might be very hard on them. The flu shot is just another way we try to protect our kids. , mom to Adam (6) and Alec (6) both wcf redsdennys@... wrote: > Hello everyone; > On Monday I took my son to the CF clinic at Children's in N. Guest guest
I have already scheduled for his flu shot. Our local health department is restricting them to the elderly , " high risk " , and health care workers at this point. They ran out of vaccine last year so they are doing the shots by appointment only. A few years ago the flu shot " missed " and didn't cover the type of Influenza A that went around our area. One of 's teachers insisted on coming to school and teaching even though she was ill and so got it and gave it to my husband and I. We were able to get on one of the drugs that helps shorten the flu the same day he showed symptoms and tested positive and he was fine within 24 hours. My husband and I were not so lucky however, and could not get in to see our family doctor and he would not prescribe it over the phone even though we were symptomatic and our child had tested positive for Influenza A. We went through 5-6 days of high fevers ( about 104 )and the worst respiratory stuff I have ever experienced. I will honestly say I have never felt so bad in my life. It became all too clear to me how dangerous the flu with it's respiratory symptoms can be for persons with CF. I have never failed to get a flu shot and I make sure my husband and I get them also. It's not a 100% gurantee that you will avoid it, but it is definately worth it to try! Guest guest
Hi Debbie, We are told to get flu shots every year. Levi (age 3) gets his at the clinic visit if his appointment is near the beginning of flu season. This year he'll get it at our local health dept. since his clinic appointment will be too late in the season. By the way, our whole family gets the shot, not just the one with cf. This is what Dr. O advises, so that's how we do it. That makes sense, too. ~ mommy of 3, 1 wcf > Hello everyone; > On Monday I took my son to the CF clinic at Children's in N. Guest guest
Yep, That is what our doctor recommends too for everyone to get flu shots in the family. They also recommend us to get our youngest chickenpox shot too. The other two have had the chickenpox that was before we knew about the CF. Guest guest
Hello - We have also been advised to get the flu shot for my son who has CF and my other son who does not have CF. My husband and I will also get vaccinations. I guess it is just one more way to try and stay healthy this winter. .

Guest guest
Also, it is reccommended that the rest of the family, as well as anyone who spends a lot of time with your child, get a flu shot. Guest guest
Hi and everyone else! Every year we have a flu shot party. We invite everyone who spends alot of time with . Our County nurse comes to our house. She is the one who suggested this in the first place. So we just made a party out of it. Last year she charged $10.00 a person. I supply cookies and drink. If anyone is under 18 they do have to have a prescription from there Doctor. Just a ideal that works for us.. is 19 and out of high school now and the nurse did say she would still come. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Yes, Shantell has had the flu shot every year since the very first year it was introduced. And, she has NEVER had the flu. Yes, I am not lying. All of us get the flu shot, myself, kids, husband etc..Myself, I haven't had the flu either. Years ago we would feel crappy the first day or so after the shot with flu like symptoms, but then we were fine. While all the kids in school (she's always gone to public school) and at work were sick with the flu, we never got it. In fact, last year Shantell said, " If I ever got the flu I wouldn't know what to do because I've never had it. " I am a firm believer. Guest guest
, We don't get t he flu shots here for free and my husband and I and my daughter that doesn't have CF gets the flu shot my family or my husband family does not get the flu shot except for my mother in law I think she does because of her celiac. I think it is a good idea but I know my family won't bother because they won't even get there self's or there kids test to see if they carry the CF gene. I think they figure it is our problem not theirs. Deb
Guest guest
There is such a shortage here for flu shots it is hard to get one before flu season even gets here. Deb
Guest guest
I have been told to take my son to the ped for a flu shot. I think the CF center only gets a small amount and gives them to the critical kids. If your son is doing well, they may want you to get it from the ped since they may have more. It's realy weird how the shots are in such short supply, but we start calling the cf center and the ped about now waiting for them to come in so we can be sure to get one! Melinda Flu shot Hello everyone; On Monday I took my son to the CF clinic at Children's in N. O. and was told to take my son to the pd. for a flu shot as anyone was ever told that? Guest guest
Deb, My family get there flu injections as I work two days a week and they look after Eilish for me and one of my sisters is a nurse so she gets it for both reasons. But my in-laws (outlaws) would never consider doing anything like that. But then again they are a pretty healthy lot, and we hardly ever see them.
