Guest guest
Hello group My son is going to be 3 Feb, I keep reading about how I need to fight hard to get a decent IEP for him, so that he gets the appropriate services. I am starting to be really nervous about it. What should I do to prepare? what should i be aware of? I already know the programs that dade school has to offer, none of them sound appealing at this point(the one I am stlightly interested in, i know if full already) so how can they surprize me? So I need some begginers tips here Thank you!
Guest guest
This is just my opinion....save yourself a lot of grief...get yourself an advocate, ask around for a good one...may cost 2 to 3 hundred...but it is worth it in the long run. do not try it alone, do not listen to everyones story( they are all different) stories won't get your IEP done. This state has some serious issues with helping children. And the schools here are not up to date enough to handle any children with LD. as far as I am concerned. This is 2010 but you wouldn't know that from the fighting parents have to go through in this state for their children. If you can afford the advocate, please go for it. I wish you the best. From: Idit Subject: IEP goals - first meeting with the dade public schoolTo: sList Date: Thursday, November 18, 2010, 2:50 PM Hello group My son is going to be 3 Feb, I keep reading about how I need to fight hard to get a decent IEP for him, so that he gets the appropriate services. Guest guest
Yes, but we do not advocate for children who attend Dade County schools. They must be Broward County residents and attend a Broward Co. school. In Miami-Dade call Parent to Parent at Robin LevineIntake CoordinatorFamily Network on Disabilitiesof Broward County, Inc.100 South s AvenueFt. Lauderdale, FL 33301Phone: Fax: 1- There are advocates that are cheaper or even free. I know there where a few posts on her from fnd. Guest guest
Contact Parent to Parent of Miami and find out how to attend one of their workshops. You can also do an online tutorial at www.fndfl.org.
