Guest guest
Hello All, I haven't been on in a while, we have been looking at different places that we could move and have my m-i-l live with us, we would need more room. I went to my rh and he did blood work, a day later I get a call that my liver enzymes are elavated and he wants to do a ultra-sound. My sed rate was up too. I didn't get any answers talking to his nurse, and I googled liver ultra sound, and alot of the sites came up with liver cancer. Okay, now I'm scared!!!!! Anyone have this done? I need to ease my fears. I am on Liptor which I know can effect the liver. But I've been on it for quite some time, and my blood work has come back normal. What else could it be that they are looking for, has anyone ever had a liver ultra sound? Hugs all and I need one too, Judy/WI --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
Judy, I have what is considered to be a " fatty liver " . I've been over 200 pounds most of my life and it raises my liver enzymes. The idiot doctor I had in the hospital actually said I was an alcoholic. one of these days he'll see what an alcoholic can do. Grrrrrr. I saw my liver doc and he said the fatty liver alone would cause the enzymes to be high. Although I'm no longer that heavy, it's still something I keep an eye on. BTW, the liver is an organ that can regenerate. As long as we don't kill it, our liver will try to help us out no matter what. Guest guest
I am not sure what they are looking for, but since your bloodwork came back with some problems, they must check to rule out different things it could be. don't worry, just go and see what they find out. could be a cyst perhaps or fatty liver. I will keep you in my prayers, hugs, Judy Thurow wrote: Hello All, I haven't been on in a while, we have been looking at different places that we could move and have my m-i-l live with us, we would need more room. Guest guest
Judy - I've had one done before for high enzymes. They found nothing. Lots of things can cause high enzymes. Taking the herb, milk thistle, can help your liver work better. Don't panic until you have to. Guest guest
Oh Gal, I've so been in your shoes. In August of 2000, I got something... they never did figure out what. My liver enzymes and sed rate were something like 5 times normal. They did every test under the sun over the next three months. Ultrasounds, blood work, ANA, ENA, iron Ferriten, arsenic, copper, you name it, they ran it. That was actually when I got my FMS dx. Turns out that even if you are only a little bit overweight, it can spike your liver enzymes. The longer you are overweight, the more of a spike. Plus Lipitor (and indeed the cholesterol problems it is designed to treat) causes elevated liver readings. Its sort of a danged if you do danged if you don't situation - if you take the drug it jacks up your liver enzymes and if you don't the cholesterol jacks them up. Mine have been eleveated for 8 years (6 ultrasounds and one gall bladder surgery later) and I'm still around so take a deep breath. I think we all know in this group that doctors offices and their staffs aren't known for common sense. They love to get us all worked out when its nothing!!! The liver is a very reactive organ and will often give funny readings even if you just had the flu or mild food poisoning. 110 to 1 its just a blip and you are totally and completely fine (other than the FMS of course
Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to add that liver enzymes put me in the hospital one time. Lots and lots of tests were done. then it was decided that I had taken so many Tylenol for the pain of fibro that it elevated the liver. when my daughter was so sick, she could not take a lot of the med's because it affected the liver and cause her enzymes to go sky high and run the risk of the liver not functioning at all. At that time my liver enzymes and or sed rate was over 700 Thanks, Norma/Ohio **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance.
