Guest guest Posted November 22, 2010 Report Share Posted November 22, 2010 Study Announcement: Child Directed Interaction Training for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders The goal of this study is to teach parents new ways of playing and interacting with a child on the Autism spectrum that may help the child to increase positive behaviors and improve his or her connection with parents or caregivers. Who’s eligible: Children previously diagnosed with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, or Pervasive Developmental Delay between the ages of 3 and 7 who can speak 3 words and understand simple sentences. How long will it take: Three 2-3 hour assessments and 8 weekly sessions in which parents are taught how to use specific skills and are coached by a therapist while playing with their child. Parents will also be asked to practice their new skills for 5 minutes per day with their child. What’ll be done: Assessments of language, cognitive ability, adaptive behaviors, and social skills; 8 sessions of Child Directed Interaction Training. Compensation: Treatment at no cost. Families will receive up to 20 dollars for completing their second and third assessments.
