Social Skills Winter Camp - ONLY 3 SPOTS LEFT!

Hello Everyone,

Many parents have expressed interest in an option for Winter Break and we are very excited to offer our sleep away Social Skills Winter Camp this year from December 17th through December 23rd. The Winter Camp is open to children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old and includes the stay, food and entrance to all activities and field trips, not to mention the instruction in social skills.

Some of the social skills we are sharpening are social awareness, recognizing emotions, identifying verbal and non-verbal cues (body language), conflict resolution, initiating conversations, being assertive, coping strategies, cooperation, working as a team, making good decisions, and understanding consequences of our actions, etc.

We are also including educational and fun field trips to places like the Castillo San Marcos, an old Spanish Fort where canons are still shot; The Oldest Wooden School House, where children can see a school from the 1800’s; The Historic Spanish Village where children will watch how a community in the 1800’s lived and worked; The Historic Saint Street; The Fountain of Youth, where Ponce De Leon landed; Fort Matanzas that includes boat ride; The Winter Wonderland where we can partake in activities such as roasting marshmallow smores, ice skating and catching the snow (fake snow- but just as fun!); The 3D Train Ride through the Night of Lights, as St Augustine has over two million holiday lights on during this time; Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, where we can look at weird, cool stuff!; and lastly, the Whetstone Chocolate Factory where we can see how our favorite deserts are made!

We will begin each day with a lesson on the social skill needed for that day and an exercise that crystallizes the lesson. Each child will be scored on how well they exhibited mastery of the skill and if needed additional help will be given that evening to assure that the child has the necessary tools to be successful. Parents will be given a final report on how well each child did during the camp.

The cost for the entire trip is $975.00 which includes absolutely everything! Families sending more than one child are eligible for a discount. Payment must be made to Focused on the Future on or before December 3, 2010 to allow us to reserve accommodations. A flyer and curriculum is available upon request for the Social Skills Winter Camp. In addition, we need documents to be signed prior to the trip allowing us to transport your child/children.
