Guest guest
Sherry, I think you should talk to your doctor again and tell him/her what you said. All the medications have side effects; if you are not too sick to tolerate the pain; then good for you. I was when I was first dx'd with Lupus. Went on for a while getting by with only Plaquenil (an immunosuppresant). It was just a few months ago the pain got to be too much for me. Also, alot of the 'zombie' effect of some of the meds decreases with time. For what ever reason...side effects, $, etc..... I have taken a few RX given to me by my doctor. I did not like! One made me a zombie, one made me hyperventalate( sp?). And, they were just too much $$$$ to keep trying. Fibro Fog is enough to deal with. DO they really the RX that is, stop the pain. I think I'd rather hurt than be a Zombie all drugged up! Guest guest
I had to make that decision when the pain doctors told me last year, well we can go in to your spine and inject a medication that will stop the nerves from communicating to the muscles and you will feel no pain for about 6 months. However ... chances of it working are difficult to tell and it could also stay that way. I asked them so how do I know when I am worse and that the nerves to my bulging disks are hernating. they just looked at me and said well this is our offer, or you can go back to the pain meds and hurt. well since i am anaphalactily allergic to numbing meds that are injected I bowed out. So I alternate now between, oxycodone, hydrocodone, valium, tramadol, ultracet. skelaxian, or flexiril. and my water and physical/massage therapy. I feel like I should own stock in wal-mart and cvs pharmacies.lol Diane --- Sherry wrote: > I have taken a few RX given to me by my doctor. I > did not like! Guest guest
I take hydrocodone which has fortunately never affected me that way. I am not a zombie at all on this medication. It never once made me sleepy or high. It does, however, give me some energy and take the pain away for a while. I guess medications just affect different people in different ways. And the pain got so bad before I went on the hydrocodone that I would have been willing to be a zombie to kill the pain. However, as I said, it affects me the opposite and actually helps the fibro fog. Debra V. Sherry wrote: I have taken a few RX given to me by my doctor. I did not like! Guest guest
Sherry, Long before I was dx'd with fibro, I had those mysterious low back pains, back spasms, etc., and for a long time, flexeril worked (10 mg) because it wasn't that often. Then I started to notice that before I could vacuum/mop, I would have to take one and before I was done, I would have to take a 2nd one to be able to finish. When my PCP (no dx yet) heard that, they gave me robaxin, which helped a little bit more. Also, naproxyn (sp?) for inflammation and as a last resort, darvocet (which I literally only take as a last resort). I got dx'd January '08 by a rheum and he started me on lyrica (low dose 75 mg 2x/day) for 2 weeks. I did not notice any sides except the initial few days when I felt " punch drunk " like many on this list. Since that time, I am up to the 150 mg 2x a day and not noticing too many side effects (drowsiness, etc.). Of course, every single one of us is different. Your doctor may have to tinker and tweak your meds. The best person to speak with is your doctor. None of us want to be a zombie and merely travel thru life, we all want to live the best possible life we can, dealing with this disease, which attacks each one of us a little differently and yet oh so much the same, its scary. I hope that helps; wanted to give you my experiences..... (((Hugs))) Darlene > > I have taken a few RX given to me by my doctor. I did not like! Guest guest
Tigger, Let me guess, they wanted you to use alternate therapies instead of pain meds. It seems they don't want us to eliminate pain or at leate reduce it so we can function. I agree in using it to increase our quality of life but they don'y understand that if the pain isn't reduced then we an't participate in other forms of therapy and daily activities. I don't think that they read the latest literature that says chronic pain changes the brain. JudyMer. Ps The weather has got to get better so we can get together; It's a good thing I'm a mermaid with all this rain and later tonight there will be coastal floodining with the high tide. Don't forget to change your clocks tonight. 1 hr less of sleep, like we need that. ---- Tigger wrote: > The Spine and Pain clinic at the Westerly Hospital.
