FCIC Funding Awarded Until 2015 The FCIC was recently awarded continued funding from the Administration in Developmental Disabilities until 2015 with our focus on these new 5 year goals: Goal 1: To improve access to effective educational supports within inclusive placements for individuals with developmental disabilities. Goal 2: To expand the availability and choice of employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Goal 3: To increase meaningful participation in community activities, services, and supports, for individuals with developmental disabilities. Goal 4: To improve access and quality of health care for individuals with developmental disabilities. Goal 5: To increase the number of professionals and practitioners who receive training from FCIC to strengthen the capacity of Florida to achieve the purpose of the DD Act. ASDnet Autism Conference Materials Available On line The FCIC recently hosted the ASDnet Conference: Innovations in Autism Spectrum Disorders – a conference focused on understanding the causes of, and effective treatments and interventions for, individuals with autism spectrum disorders, with a goal improving educational, behavioral, and community outcomes for individual and families. Don also directs the Florida Positive Behavior Support Project and USF's participation in the OSEP Positive Behavioral Supports and Interventions Center. He said, “I am excited about supporting the FCIC in the important work we do to achieve full inclusion and participation for people with developmental disabilities in the community.†FDLRS-USF The USF Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Multidisciplinary Clinic has recently joined the FCIC-UCEDD. FDLRS/USF serves school-aged children with complex learning, behavioral, medical and socio-emotional problems as well as their families and teachers. The program is a unique resource for students, families, and school districts in Florida, providing comprehensive evaluation, consultation, and intervention services, parent education and support services and professional development for educators and other professionals. Dr. Rose Iovannonewill serve as the principal investigator and will direct the activities of this important program that provides critical services to students with disabilities, their families, and teachers and graduate student trainees who are gaining practical experience. Graduate Certificate Program in Positive Behavior Support FCIC is offering an on-line certificate program in Positive Behavior Support. The certificate program will prepare professionals with content and skills in developing individualized behavior support plans, implementing school-wide PBS, and applications for early childhood programs. It offers an exciting program that is completely on-line and taught by nationally recognized researchers who have deep expertise in PBS applications.
