Guest guest
Hi, My son is almost 9. His speech is really coming along. I am homeschooling him this year because he was getting farther and farther behind in reading which I know is common. My question is about reading fluency. Its going to be really hard to explain in an email but here goes.... My ds knows all the sounds and decode well, up to 5 sound words. But his fluency is really low. For example he may look at the word " did " (which he knows). As he starts to day the first sound he will say the " M " sound instead of " d " . Immediately he knows thats wrong and corrects it. I see this really often and feel like it probably is the word retrieval difficulties. Also there are times when he will be reading and come accross a word he has mastered like " see " and he'll just stare at it then say " My brain knows it but I can say it " For those of you that have an apraxic child that struggled with reading what did you do to help him along? Thanks for any suggestions or sharing about your child. Blessings, Diane - Mom of Caleb (almost 9)
