Guest guest
Christi- My Dr. who removed my thyroid his age do you mean? He now I would probably say would have to be 70-80!, as I am 51 and this was in 77, he actually was a very smart man, and I only saw him at Boston, after the first endro/intern, saved my life, but then had me messing around with 3 pills for over a yr when he originally said I would do for 3mo's and if not successfull would have to do something else. I just kept getting bigger and bigger along with my neck, and eyes! My father saw me,brought tears to his eyes and asked if I would please go to Boston, so there I went, saw a oriental Dr. Wang, and he talked to me asking my teenage histrory, explained what can cause that, examened me and said it was defintley time to come out and should have, right away. The former Dr. had me on those meds trying to get the thyroid to burn itself out, as it was never going to work properly, so tried to have it quit on it's own, rather then have to go through the radioactive TX he was offering, which I was told if I thought of having children in the future would not recommend, back then it was also a drink, I now know they have a pill persons are taking doing the same job. I wish that Dr.Wang was still around, as I had moved out to Ca. in 1980-1996 and had several things go wrong which I now believe was some of this Fibro but Dr.'s didn't know anything about, and some was thyroid, and still continues to be. But with insurance HMO they will not let you go to specialist without referral and my Dr. all those yrs. would not refer me out, saying my TSH came back within normal and they continue saying this. The surgeon who helped me way back told me because of my condition, I would need to see a endo/ and opthamoligist, yrly, and none of this has happended because I could not get insurance to cover! I know my body, learned the thyroid system in my medical assit. course and know I need this checked as I have cycles of hair falling out, luckily it comes back, nails breaking, skin crawling etc think my med should be adjusted, as I did better on the dose I was on for yrs, before new Dr. changed it Anyway this is almost as frustrating as the Fibro. I still am only getting that Fibro site in Japanese??? I do have great Dr. for FM though and will soon have to change as I have moved from MA to ME and it is 3hrs, and the thought of starting all over with that yeck, the only Endo in this state is 2 hrs from me! Thanks again. Hoping you good days ..... Sharon Christi Randall wrote: Sharon, First, so sorry to hear what you had to go through when you were younger with your thyroid. Sometimes it does go wacky, which is what yours did. I just went to the site and it is in english. Not sure what is happening. I did not use a saved link either, typed in the web address. I have heard of a lot of people having their thyroid removed and the paraglands getting damaged in the process. Don't know the age of your doctor, but you can go onto natural thyroid instead of the synthtic stuff. You do need the thyroid since your body can no longer make the hormones you need to live. I am going to say that there is a good chance your doctor was taught to use the TSH and synthroid as the " gold standard " and is being " taught " by the pharmacutical companies that natual thyroid medication is bad and unstable, which in truth is wrong. There have been more recalls on synthroid than armour (the natural medication that has been around for over 100 yrs and has NO side affects). It just takes a lot more work to find the correct dosage of armour and different tests which most docs will not do. They only get 4-8 hours of training in medical school on the thyroid. That is not very muc for a gland that regulates our bodies. If your thyroid is not in optimal working condition, your body will not function correctly either, Ok, getting off my soap box now. As you can see I am very passionate about this. Christi Randall www.singingwomenoftexas.com Re: How many of you run a low termperature? christie I have run a low temp for over 30 years since I was dig. with thyroid. I have blood tests every 3 months and they all say I am ok with the amount of medication I am on. Except, I have a very enlarged thyroid now, and a large goiter. I go Wed to have the Thyroid up take test. I had an ultra sound done already. It showed Goiter with Nodules. I think it read Nodule with many small nodules flowing in spider web like fashion. they could not determine if it was cold or not. She asked if I could come back for a needle biopsy and I said yes but they never called. I go the 24th to see a endocrinologist. I sure hope someone has some answers somewhere. Thanks for replying what you say is very interesting and I guess I never thought about if the med's were right. Norma/Ohio **************It's Tax Time! Guest guest
Sharon, You might want to check into getting DO for your thyroid doc. Most endo will ONLY treat with artifical meds, will not even consider natural. A DO is much more likely to be open to trying natural. Keep trying to get the thyroid site, there has to be something happening to cause you to get it in a different language. Just for the heck of it, try clicking on the address in this e-mail and keying it in. There is a possibility that you may be keying a letter wrong. www.stopthethyroidmadness.com You went HYPER back then and lots of times the thyoid does need to come out when that happens. I have hashimoto thyroiditis - which means my body is attacking and slowing killing my thyroid. I was originally diagnosed in Dec 95 and I swing between HYPO and HYPER - right now I am in a hyper phase - will be glad once the thyroid is dead - as it will make it much easier to find the correct dosage I need. The TSH is not a reliable test to check the function of your thyroid, better indicators are the FREE T3 and FREE T4 (not the total T3 & T4) as the free's show what is available for your body to use. When they are low - you will not feel good. This I have learned from first hand experience. But I do know everyone is different and you have to do what is right for you. I am not in any way trying to tell anyone how to treat a thyroid condition, but only trying to help educate so that a more informed decision can be made.
