Hi i am a mother 2 autistic children amoung being a mother of four. For one thing i learned is helpful is taking a check list of your concerns as a parent and how they suggest it to be addressed, you are entitled by law to be able to record the iep meeting with a tape recorder as well as request copies of the iep ... inquire in the iep if a pegs board would work for your child, if they would give your child the maximum amount of slp therapy, request for a daily behavior chart to track your child's behavior as well as to start picking up what triggers those behaviors and get an idea of what reinforcers may work to help control the situation. if the child takes medication please mention this along with the name, if you are aware what helps the child to aleviate a tantrum let them be aware of that as

well as what may trigger a specific behavior, the childs favorite toy, candy, song, commercial... what is the school going to provide as far as saftey measures to insure the childs well being? if you want to speak further feel free to contact me @ . My two kids were diagnosed at 9 months of age and the other when he was a year old and they are now 9 & 8 yrs. old. take care and have a blessed holiday. To: sList Sent: Wed,

You should discuss what are the goals for next year. What behavior goals do you

want to see accomplished. Ask also about speech therapy, does he or she have a

paraprofessional assigned to them. What accodomations does your child need.

Accodomations you may feel will benefit your child. Example in academics, does

your child need extra timing, instuctions giving or broken down in a way they

understand. Go with a list of what you want to ask or know. Remember that this

is your child and you shouldn't feel rushed at all. IEP meetings have no time

limits to them. Do not leave until you feel everything was dicussed or you feel

you have all the answers you can get. Any questions feel free to contact me

personally. Yaray.@...

I will be graduating in May with my Bachelors in Special Education and I'I've

been to many IEP meetings.

I would seek out an advocate. Request a copy of the draft prior to the meeting as well. Feel free to email privately should you have any other questions or concerns.Take care!!!Sent from my iPhone

You should request a copy of the IEP Draft prior to the meeting which would give

you enough time to review it, perhaaps a 5 to 10 days prior to the meeting.A

parent schould NEVER go into an IEP Meeting clueless. If there isn't enough time

to accompolish everything, reschedule. You might consider getting an Advocate.

I would highly recommend contacting FND and asking for guidance from an advocate who is familiar with the IEP process. This was so helpful to me and they provide this service for free. You just have to plan ahead for availability.
