Guest guest
So very sad that such horrible things happen to individuals with DD when they are is segregated environments where they are supposed to be safe and protected. Another clear example that segregation makes those who are vulnerable more vulnerable to injustices and abuse like this. Guest guest
While it is possible that some or all of the victims were members of the DD population, the article does not state that this is the case. It also doesn't say that this is a segregated DD care facility. It mentions a man with a spinal problem (possibly another patient) assaulting one of the women. It appears there was little or no supervision or patient care going on in this facility. We must remember though that NOT ALL care facilities and or communities for the disabled are so poorly run and monitored by the state where they are. Some supportive communites where the DD population is segregated are very safe and have competent, caring staff members. It is a shame that those who are against allowing choice of residence, or supportive communities will use this case to support their statements against choice and supportive communities.
