My son seems to have a chronic problem with yeast and bacteria i his gut. We have tried several antivirals but the one that my son seems to tolerate the best is fluconozol (Generic Diflucan). For Bacteria we always use Alinia because it can be crushed up and added to his juice with ease and it is tasteless.

Anti-virals

Did anyone treat their child with anti-virals? Can you share your experience?

Thanks!

You are better off treating the Biofilm. You should have some success with that. Some of the labs treating kids with autism make the products for that. Klaire Labs has Interfase - contact Dr. Le Gunn - he carries it locally 561 350-9967

Fluconazole is an antifungal, effective against yeast only. It will

do nothing to a virus. Antivirals frequently have generic names

ending in " vir " or " virin " . (Ribavirin, osetamivir (tamiflu) and the

AIDS drugs). If you see " azole " it is for yeast. Alinia treats

protozoa, which are single celled animals that are not bacteria (think

giardia, amoebas, malaria--think of them as sort of a one-celled

worm). The drugs to treat them are NOT interchangeable. Antibiotics

will only kill bacteria (occasionally protozoa, but frequently you

need an antiprotozoal medication, which will not kill bacteria),

antivirals will only affect viruses, antifungals will only affect

yeast. And then there are the antihelminthics that will treat

tapeworm, etc. If you kill one of these, it may leave a void that the

others will take advantage of.

Thanks, but I don't mean anti-fungels, I mean anti-viral.

We have been treating my 4.5 yr old with antivirals (Valtrex) for 8 months. We

saw great improvements - last year he was sick for 6 months straight and was out

of school/therapy all the time and would regress with illnesses. Now he rarely

gets sick (only about 2 short illnesses in the past 8 months). The dark circles

are gone and his skin color is pink not whitish grey (big diff when you see

before/after pics). His socialization improved so that he was able to function

much better in school settings - last year he almost got kicked out of pre-k,

this year he is thriving and meeting iep goals. He has much better awareness of

his surroundings, and better visual tracking etc.

We have done a lot of biomedical interventions in this time, MB12 injections

increased language, digestive enzymes helped tremendously with picky eating.

Zinc cleared up drooling and chewing on objects. Those were the things that

helped for us. You have to be on a strong antifungal if you are on antivirals

since they increase yeast, and the yeast behaviors will mask the gains. There's

a group on yahoo called MB12Valtrex, and there are some very knowledgable people

on that list. Many also go the natural antiviral route.

If you want to contact me and ask me more about antivirals, you can email me and

I'll give you my number.

I agree with Badillo (as usual) that treating the biofilm is imperative. We did and continue to do various broad spectrum anti microbial whole food products, some continuously and some in a rotational manner. I am attaching a hyperlink to Dr. Klinghardt's "Lyme and Other Chronic Infections As The Underlying Cause Of Illness" conference. He discusses the comprehensive treatment protocols necessary to fight this ongoing battle with infection. Some really helpful information.

And Dy Amy Yasko has some great info on this as well.

http://www.generationrescue.org/pdf/yasko.pdf

Stating that chronic infection sequesters or holds captive heavy metals, so microbes MUST be dealt with properly before effective detoxification can occur. She has even had cases where no chelators were used, just anti microbials, yet testing demonstated that increased amounts of heavy metals were being found in urine and stool from simply treating infection. Huge piece of the puzzle!

My son also has a chronic issue with yeast and bacteria....I believe mostly bacteria. We have tried to alter his diet by limiting sugar and carbs to the best of our ability. He has been on rounds of Vancomycin and/or Keto (the yeast med). His belly is still very often bloated...some of which may be some gluten sources we either have allowed or are not aware of.

I purchased some supplements from Kirkman that was supposed to address the biofilm issue.

What else is recommended?

I hate to keep using medications...

Interesting. We have been treating our son for yeast and bacteria overgrowth for over two years now with little to no effect. We kill off all of the yeast and bacteria and within a month or two both the yeast and bacteria are overgrown again it is frustrating! The antibiotics make him impossible to live with, but the yeast and bacteria make him aggressive and impossible to live with as well. Our Dan Dr. says if we can get the yeast and bacteria under control to where we only have to treat for the overgrowth once or twice a year then that would be optimal, but I would like to solve the problem and be done with it. We can't figure out why he keeps getting these overgrowths so keeping them from coming back seems impossible. Any suggestions? We are on a GFCF diet, we take enzymes and STRONG probiotics in addition to SBC, what else is there?

You might want to try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD). We went through 4

different anti-fungals to treat yeast overgrowth and none of them worked on

either of my sons. The SCD diet did work (it literally starved the yeast) and

after a year of them being on it we went back to GFCF and have not had a problem

since.

I have looked into it in the past but thought it was too difficult, but I will look into it again. My son only eats three things anyway, hopefully they are on the SCD diet. I will keep you posted.

Yes...if you are interested we do special testing of the underlying biochemistry with urine and saliva that is very helpful in correcting the issues of the GI tract. It requires looking at a number of basic fundamental elements which are all interconnected and do impact the GI tract....such as blood sugar levels, salt conductivity, ammonia in the ureas, surface tension of the cell wall, mitochondria (ATP - cellular production), enzymes, minerals, protein levels, sulphation, intercellular dehydration, organ functioning and much more.

This testing is not currently provided by the DAN physicians. The abnormal biochemistry is one of the reasons why many children do not make significant improvement with the DAN protocol because these underlying issues are not being addressed. Once these issues are in normal range, the child is in a much better place for successful heavy metal detox, parasite cleansing, hormone balancing, neurotransmitters etc. This is not DAN testing. We keep our costs reasonable for parents to afford. It's $250 for the test which includes the test results, protocol to address the issues and a consult. We are local in Tamarac - 7162 N. University Dr. just North of McNab.

Will this help with bacteria and yeast?
