I’ve been holding off on Florida prepaid college because I was nervous my son would not go to college and then we would lose our investment. Anyone know anything about that? What are others doing?

Can you speak more about this???? We do the Florida Prepaid for all three of ours (actually the grandparents do it). Is there a discounted rate for our kids?

As for college, you can do the Florida pre-paid and get his college much cheaper. We did it this year for our son and his four year college tuition was 11,000.00 without room and board.

I have this for 3 children as well. I have transferred balances of money from one child to another with no problem or penalty. We also purchased a plan for our child with special needs about 10 years ago and seeing that she will not be able to use it with a Doctors note cashed in her scholarship with out a penalty and got about 5000-6000 over what we paid in back. They give you a percentage back you would have to go to their website to see what the percentage is currently!Good Luck,KathySent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: sList Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2011 08:02:28 -0800 (PST)To: <sList >ReplyTo: sList Subject: Re: Florida Pre-Paid college discussion I have it. it does not count as an asset and you can get your money back if he can't go. If you have a Dr.'s note stating they are not able to attend due to autism they will reimburse you with interest. We spent 7000.00 about 10 years ago and received over 12,000.00 back.KathySent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerrySender: sList Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2011 10:22:23 -0500To: <sList >ReplyTo: sList Subject: Re: Florida Pre-Paid college discussion If your son does not go to college you can get a complete refund of the money you invested but without interest. My daughter is in college now and we took out pre-paid tuition for 4 years and dorm for one year. Wish we had taken out dorm for 4 years because even if you don't use it, they will refund the money to you. If you take it out when your child is young and you can afford it, it's like a savings account that you can't touch until they are in college or decide not to go. It's a LOT cheaper to do it when they are young, than to pay for college now (or even 10 or more years from now)

Robin

I also held off and am now glad I did. My daughter will not be able to handle the academics of college and I hoped & prayed for many years that she possibly could. I couldn't have handled the money then anyway and it went towards therapies which now I can say did help. Only you can be the one to decide and check to see about returning the money if you change your mind. Good luck.
