Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am new, having only posted a few times. I wanted to share that I saw my orthopedic surgeon yesterday for possible carpal tunnel surgery, as I have it in both hands. Dr. Lang told me no way will he perform just carpal tunnel surgery on anyone with Rheumatoid Arthritis, that I must also have a Synovectomy (sp) on both hands b/c RA affects and even causes Carpal Tunnel. He said as long as the Synovial tissue is still around the tendons in my wrists, the carpal tunnel will not get any better and maybe worse. He also said that before we operate, he insists on being certain that my RA is totally under control for 6 months or more. This was a perfect opportunity for me to mention him referring me to the Rheumy in his practice for a second opinion. He was glad to do that and thought it was an excellent idea. I also mentioned to him that I was going to ask for a referral anyway b/c I think I have Fibro, actually think I have had it for 9 + years, and that it was getting worse. I told him my Rheumy that I have seen for 5 years does not want to hear about it. He asked my symptoms. I did not get to half of them when he stopped me and said it certainly sounds like Fibro. He said the Rheumy in his practice was trained at Mayo Clinic and knows good and well Fibro is very real. I cannot get in to see her until 4/15. But, to me it is worth the wait. I know she cannot cure me and maybe will not change anything I am taking etc. But, if she just acknowledges that my pain is real, that my Fibro is real, and LISTENS to me, that is all I need. I am so tired of feeling like a complainer. Again, I am so glad I found this group! F.
