Guest guest
My NEURO surgeon told me to take my meds when I NEED them..NOT Necessarily how they are rx'd to me. I was on zero meds before surgery, and in a lot of pain, but my doctors KNOW my IBS situation and KNOW that I cannot take most meds..because I become SICKER then with the pain in NOT TAKING the meds. My insurance will allow me to have meds anytime...only every 30 days..but I can have them as I NEED them...and I do not have cut back in order to get them. I AM on PLAN D in AARP and I also am on MEDICARE DISABILITY ...not sure what I would DO if I did not have MEDICARE disability. AND Plan D. I guess I have not ever had the problem of having my doctors think I just WANT meds...duh! for my quote " addictions " unquote..which I don't have. My pain consultant and my NEURO surgeon both KNOW I am in pain. In fact I have had almost every kind of pain machine available..and NONE of them work. because I have DAMAGED MUSCLES and NERVES... Did you all know that when a person has back surgery...the surgeon takes the MUSCLES and clamps them back so they will not writhe during surgery. The body HATES to have those muscles disturbed...Well, I have had this done five times now...and so I have terrible muscle Spasms.... I don't take anything for the FM...basically because a lot of meds are STEROIDS....and I DO NOT DO STEOIDS well.. I have some pretty rough days...and feel helpless some days...but I just make sure I let someone know that I am in a FOG...and to check on me...until hubby arrives HOME...etc...that is one of the reasons we are MOVING..my daughter will be nearer .... Much love and FIBRO SOFT HUGS\ Faithyt -- Re: CHAINED Re:Please tell me what you think Better be carefull on that also to those thinking won't take med's even though in pain, as there are times and it is happening more and more, again mostly because of the street users abusing buying and selling, but Dr. because they are being clamped down on over prescribing, which really isn't but is by the BIG GUYS,probably using them themselves, but anyway physicians are doing bloodwork and will check to see where your pain med level is at in your system, so for all that think they have to be carefull they took one or two pills more than prescribed a mo. you also have to be carefull of under taking them as it may cause you to get D/C'd off of them, as they believe well you aren't using them so can't really need them!, We are caught in a ugly situation all around because of mostly the pills being pushed on the streets... I was just told by my doctors office who I am lucky ot have and make the now 3 hr trip q 3 mo's as they not only understand me, know me and not just on the surface, they treat for the disease, pain, and have great bedside manner! But they had to tell me that even though I was originaly prescribed my prilosec20 mg 4x a day, because my insurance has changed again I can only get it covered by dropping it down to x2 a day, I agreed as I need it and have been out, they hung up again saying until I can get it cleared by insurance again for the x4 they want to make sure I Do not take anymore then the 2 and have to follow bottle as I say this is really getting strict, and it is not MY DR directly doing this, Sharon wrote: I have at times been made to feel that I am just a junkie looking for pain pills. I found that I got that feeling when at the ER more than anywhere else. I finally got to the point that I would not take my pain meds unless I was in excruciating pain that way when the doctor would ask if that's what I wanted I could say " No I still have some left over from my last prescription. " Thank goodness my PCP is not this way. She is a wonderful woman who spends as much time as needed with me when I go see her. I've even been in her office for an hour trying to figure things out. She knows FMS is not in anyone's head. Hope this helps. --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
Faith, I took pain meds in order to continue working. I have always worked 1 job and attended college classes and had children first as a single parent , then in a blended family (I got 2 teenage boys) and added an ours then worked 2 jobs then worked as a director at work 60hrs and on call most of the rest of the week. I have always loved my work and work in nonprofit agencies because of the love of the job. In order to continue I had arthritis meds and later vicodin for ocational pain. I must admit I also had pain meds as a teen for mentral cramps because it was worse than my labor pains with my children and i had both front and back labor without pain medication. I also have had to take cough meds with codine since I was 10 because the bronchial cough causes me to be unable to sleep and spasms that causes me to vomit.(sorry). I take some medication routinely and lortab(stronger vicodin) as needed and percocet during flare if the vicodin can't help. I also have a muscle stimulator and a tens machine. I have a rollator walker because my muscles fatigue after a block. I find the most help is to be in a warm pool. The water allows me to move the muscles with less fatigue plus I can interact with my grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Yes I do some sitting activities with them but I really enjoy that time I get to " be normal. " i use to teach preschoolers and was known for the fun crazy activities I would do with the kids. I thought I'd be able to do that with my grandchildren but it doesn't seem to be that way. Oh well sorry about the side vent. Anyway , meds are what they are, a way for people to have some quality of life. If what they do is not helping you then you shouldn't use them, you should use another method to help you. I'm open to anything. I think that is the most important thing. That doesn't mean you should try everything. Just try to do the best for you .
