AS A SPOUSE WHAT IS THE BEST WAY I CAN HELP HER OUT? > First of all, I would do some reading --- and boy! can you get info by reading our posts. Second, when she is in really bad pain, ask her what you can or might do that would help her the most! I have found it interesting that my husband has really accepted the fact that I can't always unload and load and then run the dishwasher -- I bit my tongue when he doesn't empty it as quickly as I might like, but he does help with that. He now does all of the grocery shopping - -- that's a help but he's doing weightwatchers so we have many things for that! But if I fall, as I did a week ago, he heard me, came into the room where I was lying on the floor and helped me up --- with a few funny remarks about all the water on the floor (we have a leak in our kitchen sink that 3 different guys have not determined where it is coming from, so that was very funny because the water had been in a cup I had in one hand!) If I am lying down when he gets home from work, he comes up and sits down and we talk. We've been married for 22 years and I was battling this for 8 years prior to that and he did not see very many episodes for nearly a year or more. So, initially, it was strange when I would be in pain. And then when I developed what I call " restless body! " because it is not just my legs that move, but my whole body will jerk at times when I go to bed. That was very annoying to him -- - as it meant he could not sleep -- so he yelled a few times about it, telling me to stop! The final solution to that was that I would just go to our guest bedroom if I was having problems. And now that I am not working --- my sleep schedule is stranger than before, so I sleep in another room most of the time --- I can be awake all night, I no longer have racing thoughts, thank goodness, but I just couldn't go to sleep, so I always have a book to read. This past weekend I found a new (to me)cd for sleep and the two nights I have used it, I have fallen asleep so fast, I can't believe it!! But if you wife does have fibro, I think one thing is patience!!! We have no idea when the ugly monster is going to rear it's ugly head and you may find that she isn't able to do what you once did. And I think that is one thing that I do really miss --- we would go on long drives exploring around where ever we happened to live (we've moved 6 times in these 22 years --- from San as far as Philadelphia and now in the Pittsburgh area.) So, we did take advantage of long drives on the weekends. And perhaps after my husband retires in June and we move back " home " , I may find I feel better because of all the friends and family that are in the area.
