Guest guest
Hi . We used Grape seed Extract (pygnogenol) when Coby's was young. It made a world of difference in his focus/attention and hyperactivity. Would recommend it highly. Guest guest
My son takes both pycnogenol and Gaba and there is no unwanted side effects from either. We have our very busy little guy on 1500 mg's of GABA a day and only 25mg's a day of pycnogenol. The GABA he takes in three divided doses a day. After reading these posts I am thinking he should be taking more pycnogenol. I will call his Dr. Monday. Guest guest
It was so long ago when we did it. I believe it was GABA and we administered 500 mg three times daily, starting with once a day, then twice, then ending at 3 times daily. I think some would say that was high but for him it was not. And I think he was 4 at the time, when we started him on it. He took that dose for about 2 years. Again, it was for hyperactivity. Then, we added Pycnogenol and started with a low dose (50 mg) and watched. Initially, that was recommended for focus/concentration. However, we learned of its anti-inflammatory effects and that is now primarily why we give him that. He takes about 400 mg a day of that (Pycnogenol) and no more GABA. We did not observe any negative side effects. However, I would check out some of the autism biomedical sites and see what other parents reported, just to be aware of what some may say. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Go visit Dr. Aronson-Ramos. I believe she's in Coconut Creek. She has a website, please look her up. She's a developmental pediatrician; she does not take insurance, but she'll give you the paperwork to file for reimbursement. > > > > > > > > > I have a 13 year old that was diagnosed with aspergers 4 years ago. Guest guest
We started when my son was 3 1/2 and we used a dropper full per 50lbs of weight, twice a day - once before school and after school to help with concentration/decrease hyperactivity for his ABA sessions. It was great for us. Robin Thanks Robin! Do you remember how much you gave him. My kids are now 7, 4, and 2. I have heard of Gaba’s success on many occasions just never tried it . So my thought is to start there but not sure. ?????From: sList [mailto:sList ] On Behalf Of CohaneSent: Friday, February 04, 2011 10:36 PMTo: sList Subject: RE: Re: Help finding a doctor to evaluate need for medication Thanks Tina…your info is always helpful. The ideal dosage is between 300 and 400 mg throughout the day. The Blue Bonnet brand name has dosages of 100 mg so taking 3-4 daily spread out is what we do for our son. It also helps with inflammation. GABA can also be purchased at Whole Foods, however may be mixed with other unwanted ingredients so read labels. It can also be purchased at Kirkman labs which has a website. Hope this helps!Sent from my iPhone Where do you get them? From: sList [mailto:sList ] On Behalf Of austintandt@...Sent: Friday, February 04, 2011 4:54 AMTo: sList Subject: Re: Re: Help finding a doctor to evaluate need for medication We found pycnogenol and Gaba to be extremely helpful with both hyperactivity and focus. Also, some kids tend to be hyper and unfocused when they have pain, such as belly pain.Regular and consistent exercise is also helpful.Medication has a lot of unwanted side effects and does not treat the problem, if in fact it’s medical (see below email and what I wrote above). From: celesteleo2725 Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2011 3:05 PMTo: sList Subject: Re: Help finding a doctor to evalutate need for medication Check for lithium levels and Vitamin D levels first. Guest guest
I think pycnogenol is extracted from tree bark, not grapeseed. Guest guest
My son takes 3 capsules a day . The capsules are 500 mg's and he takes them throghout the day. He is four years old and weighs about 45 lbs. I wanted to give him more because it just barely calms him down, but his DAN Dr. told me that was the max dose. I refuse to put him on meds so that will have to do for us. Guest guest
I get my GABA from Kirkmans or from New Beginnings. I am leary of supplements that have things in them other than what I want. For this reason I like to buy my supplements from a select group of suppliers. Gaba only needs to have Gaba in it. I do not know what the theonine and sensoril are so I would be very leary of giving my little guy that.
