Hi

Can anyone shed some light on this. I have been trying to reach Nova dental for almost a year! I finally get through and they tell me they can not take my son's medicaid because we have Humana insurance. I explained that we DO NOT have any dental insurance and they said they will not take him! What is going on! We have not been able to be seen by anyone that takes medicaid! He has not been seen in 3 years! Help!AlwaysAna Brushingham

Unfortunately, many of our children were put into HMOs as part of the Medicaid program and the rest will be put in probably sooner than we'd like due to the changes in Tallahassee. (Did you see what our new governor wants to cut?) Anyway, you may want to contact your caseworker to see if they can help find you a provider. Otherwise, you will probably have to find someone that will take payments. There are some very good pediatric dentists out there - someone on this list knows I'm sure. I might also suggest that you go in person to Nova and show them your son's medicaid card, perhaps they had you listed as Humana by mistake.

He is on medicaid, the problem stems from the Humana. What I do not understand is why? We do not have dental insurance so it is a moot point.AlwaysAna Brushingham

The Grottoes (Masons) offer free dental for special needs kids (including those with autism). My two boys have been getting free dental for several years, from the BEST dentist in our area. You do NOT need to be financially needy. You can write to them to get an application. Here is their address:

Supreme Council Grottoes of North America

Humanitarian Foundation

Dental Care for Children with Special Needs

430 Beecher Road

Gahanna, Ohio, 43230-1797

I don't know their phone number, but it would easy to google it.

We have a great dentist …his info is below. He was very patient and creative when working with our children. Not sure about sedation but I think I recall him saying he has done it before. Not sure if they take Medicaid. Dealing with that myself. The computer selects what plan to put the child in and it's a pain to get it switched or switch who it chooses for their PCP. My little man is in desperate need of going to the dentist, but all I'm told is basically to call around. Seems none of the "plans" cover dental. We just switched to Medipass so (fingers crossed) we'll be able to find something. TishaSubject: Re: Help-Nova dental will not take medicaid! To: sList Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 1:21 PM

Dentist Freedman is fantastic. My daughter went to her several times and she and her staff is great with special needs. My daughters two front teeth broke from a fall and she made them look excellent. I go to her all the time. She will give u a discount if she does not take yr insurance.
