Guest guest
was denied SSI, at 19, because even his doctor couldn't say he could not work a 40 hour week if he weren't in college. CF, in and of itself, is not a disability. The question is how much is their health, and ability to support themselves, affected. We were told by a social worker at the CF center hospital that many cf patients qualify, just not all. If 's health takes a turn for the worse, we could apply again. We are also in the process of trying to get SSI for our daughter, w/o cf, with ADD and Tourette's syndrome. The best advice I have is: consult with a lawyer versed in SSI cases. Most take the case pro bono, meaning they don't get paid if they don't get SSI for the client. If they don't feel you'll qualify, they'll tell you. Our's says there is such a turnover in Social Security workers that they are not well versed on it. Once you are turned down, the lawyer is enabled to look at what SS looked at in making the determination, and put together the appeal and/or hearing information.
